A friends LG LS-50 laptop has gone to a better place and while I wish I could say its spirit lives on, unfortunately the contents of the “spirit” were not backed up.
Can a laptops HD been taken out and “slaved” to say a desktop computer in an effort to retrieve data?
If so, any advise on how to get the HD out of an LG computer?

Thanks in advance for any help you folks can provide.

You could try Amazon for an adapter and you may find some help in removing the HD at the Notebook review LG Forum

TigerDirect has a number of 2.5″ HD Enclosures. See here for a pre-configured search for such items.

I’ve purchased from this website a number of times, and have not been disappointed.

Yes, as already suggested all you need is a suitable adaptor. I had an old IBM Thinkpad with a corrupt XP installation. A couple of screws undid a plate and then the hdd just pulled out. Plugged it into an adaptor comprising an IDE connector on one end and a USB connector on the other and no problem. The laptop disk appeared as just another drive on the host desktop. Data retrieved!
