I thought this was working on this new-to-me P15s but maybe not. Tried resetting power settings but no change. as indicated by little red light on lid not flashing, and laptop clearly being wide awake and lock screen not even locked when raise lid. 22H2 win 10

EDIT: okay, apparently I am a dummy.

I ran powercfg -restoredefaultschemes and rebooted and now lid close and it sleeps. But when I raise lid, I get lock screen, but it does NOT require password. How to require password?

I see nothing in settings about require password.

present settings: I really want power off, nothing, sleep…

I find if I alter anything there, even if I go back to orig settings, it won’t sleep.

I feel like I’m back in kindergarten. Now, after changing settings, I have to reboot for them to take effect.

Now, unless I set it to sleep, sleep, sleep, it won’t sleep when lid closed.

Now, when I close lid, it goes to sleep, I raise lid, I get lock screen but it does not require password.

With lid raised, if I press power button for 1.0 sec, it does go to sleep and black screen. Press key and it wakes up to lock screen, but, again, does not require a password.

    Thoughts?

Note: if I pres WINkey and L, it immediately locks the screen and requires a password to get back in.

Go to Setting, Accounts, Sign-in options
Change Require sign-in to whatever you need.

      cheers, Paul

p.s. having a password does not stop someone reading your data unless you use disk encryption (Bitlocker / Veracrypt).

I put on a driver for power from Lenovo for this laptop and now, while it does not lock imediately, it IS locked if I raise the cover after a minute of it being closed, so should probably mark this solved. Thanks all!

No. I watched it very carefully as I closed the lid and sometimes it would sense the lid-close (ie go to sleep) and sometimes not. A open 1″ and close and it would go to sleep. SO. lid-close sensor/switch, whatever/wherever that is, wasn’t working. so just now I, again (I had, the day I received it), popped the bottom cover and looked at it very carefully. I could not find anything that looked like a lid-close switch/sensor. I did remove and reseat a little metal bracket over the RJ45 socket that looked slightly wonky, and put it back together, and now, it goes to sleep at about 1″ from closed, and the settings that I was having trouble with above all work the way I want (power-off, nothing, sleep).

If anyone knows where the sensor/switch for lid-close is on any of these Lenovo laptops, please let me know!, but, fixed for now.

laptops T or P, 14,15,16,17, sub designation “s” or not.

      Thanks!!!

Lid sensors are a small magnet in the lid and a hall effect sensor on the motherboard. These cannot be adjusted.

Maybe the lid is not closing properly – due to stickers / notes?

      cheers, Paul

Yes, the magnet is on the top left of the monitor about 1.5″ from the left corner (find with compass). I took the bottom off and found the sensor and when I wiggled the ribbon cable it seemed loose so I disconnected it and re-connected it and it seemed noticeably better. I also found that, although no program was keeping it awake,  a hub that I had received day before yesterday (Lenovo 7-in-1 USB-C) was keeping it awake, so removed that. Not sure which, or perhaps both, fixed it but problem solved.

My money is on the USB device. Seen too many of those muck up PC shutdown.

      cheers, Paul

Interestingly, I shut off BIOS config/keyboard-mouse/trackpad (which I usually do on laptops) and sleep now responds instantly. Later I’ll grab that hub and try it.

    • #2495800

Yeah, put the supposedly offending hub back in and sleeps like a baby. Turned trackpad back on and wouldn’t sleep. Slid 3 layers of printer paper between and it went to sleep. Electrostatic prob from touch screen display?

This has been sporadic so I will report back.

Remember, these are toys, not things that are supposed to actually save you time… 😉
