I have a Dell M6700 running Windows 7.  It has been in a dock for a long time.  After a couple of months of storage out of the dock, it will only display using VGA drivers.  The system uses nVidia drivers for high resolution display (1920×1200).  I deleted and restored the nVidia drivers and the problem is the same.  The laptop screen is black, although I can connect it to an external display and it works fine.  A pre-boot diagnostic shows no video card problems.  Does anyone have any ideas on what might be causing this?

It sounds like the machine is stuck in external video mode. There is normally a function key to swap monitors between internal and external (Fn F8 on a Dell).

      cheers, Paul
