Keyboard shortcuts don’t work (Word 2000 SR-1)

I recorded a couple of macros and saved them in Normal.dot. Then I added keyboard shortcuts to invoke them. But the keyboard shortcuts don’t work. I can go into Tools / Customize / Keyboard and see that the shortcuts are indeed associated with the macros. The macros themselves work; I can go into Tools / Macro / Macros, select the macro and click Run, and it works. But when I press the shortcut keys nothing happens.

Can anyone suggest why this is so and how to fix it?

Where did you save the shortcut? Word resolves conflicts in the following order:
1. Document itself
2. Template attached to the active document
3. Normal template
4. Additional global templates in alphabetical order
5. Add

The macros and the keyboard assignments are in Normal.dot. I open and brand-new document. I look for the macros. Sure enough, they are there. I look for the keyboard assignments to the macros. Sure enough, they are there. But they do not work when I press the keys.

Hi Bill:
I don’t know if you tried this already, but I would unassign the shortcut keys & then reassign them. If that doesn’t work, maybe there’s some corruption in normal.dot. In that situation, I would close Word & rename normal.dot to normal.old. Then restart Word (normal.dot will be recreated) & use the Organizer to copy your module from your normal.old to normal.dot. Reassign the shortcut keys & see if this works.

If it doesn’t, you might need to go through the steps listed in post 197827.
