W10Pro 22H2 – Install KB5029331 2023-08 Cumulative Update Preview for W10 22H2 for x64 is apparently successful but results in an error message on the update page about missing files and Error Code 0x8007000d.

Uninstall KB50293331 and all is sweet again. Tried to manually download KB5029331 for a manual install but it’s not found on the download center.

Unsure what to try next to attempt to clear the error and set W10 ready for next update.

    Ideas, comments, anyone?

We don’t recommend installing Preview updates unless you have a specific need for the fixes they contain. Previews are normally for business environments in a test environment before deploying updates to many machines.

See Susan’s Master Patch List for information on what updates are safe to enstall.

Yes, thanks very much for rapid response – explanation clear.

For some reason yet not understood I cannot stop that preview update downloading and installing.  I just re-reviewed your excellent “update notes” and checked my gpedit settings but I haven’t “got it” so far.  Each time I unistall it, reboot, and open the Settings>Update page, I still have the Error mesage.  Hit “Retry” to clear it and the download begins again.  There’s obviously something I am missing…

That’s just a history message.  Retry will indeed just reinstall it.

“Retry will indeed just reinstall it.”  So I have learned today.  A good lesson to avoid frustration!!

actually that KB5029331 preview cumulative update is not officially released yet as it is currently available only for windows insiders

it should be scheduled to be released during the 4th week of August (around Tuesday August 22)

so it was a big mistake for the OP to even install this update this soon. uninstall that update and wait one more week for the REAL KB5029331 update to come out on 8/22

Could they have got it without signing up for Insider previews?

Liiks like I need to go back over some past elections…

But, wouldn’t you know it – on its last install attempt it finished “clean”, no warnings.  I am going to unistall it now.

And, yes, in the process I found that at some time I had signed up for the Insider Previews, now cancelled!

        Hi Redcoat,

I have exactly the same problem as you had. I just removed the KB5029331 update.

How did you cancel the Insider Previews? Because I was supposed I already wasn’t signed up anymore for Previews.

        Best regards,

Same problem here, stuck on the update but impossible to uninstall it! I uninstalled also the previous update and now I’m completely stuck.

It is said it will be cleared on August 22th .. anyone knows?

uninstall the KB5029331 update, reboot and install the official KB5029331 update just released from MS update catalog 8/22 after 10am pacific local time:

      https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=kb5029331

this non-insider version of KB5029331 has build 19045.3393 and not the buggy 19045.3391 build
