I’ve seen it said that this update brings UEFI and secure boot support to Windows 7 but there is next to no documentation on it.

Can anyone confirm this? Many have seemingly tried and failed, but it’s an ESU update so I assume they didn’t have an ESU-enabled install. Additionally there seemed to be some hardware-specific conflicts for some reason.

There is information here on requirements for Sept 2022 updates. SHA-2 Code Signing required. Also, there were maybe restrictions on CPU above a given generation.

      More information on Microsoft.

Google “Win7 UEFI and secure boot support”

Also, there were maybe restrictions on CPU above a given generation.

Since I was running Windows 7 back then, I paid attention to most of the update criteria that kept coming out as things changed. I seem to recall there being a “requirement” (directive from MS?) that on Windows 7 installations with a CPU that was Intel’s 7th generation or newer CPU, that any security updates wouldn’t install. BUT, I also seem to remember seeing that there was a workaround for that.

EDIT to add: I found a link to an entry in Wikipedia. In the article, there is mention of hardware restrictions imposed by Microsoft starting in January of 2016. Here’s a link to the Wikipedia article: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_7. In the article, this information can be found under the main heading of “Extent of hardware support” and under it’s sub-heading of “Processor limits”. The area of interest begins in the second paragraph under “Processor limits”, and continues through the next two paragraphs, so the second through the fifth paragraphs.
