    W10-1803-Home Version

The KB4462919 update has downloaded and attempted to install and failed 10 times over the past 10 days. Is does this automatically.

I tried Windows Update fix it. Did not work.

I tried downloading and installing it Directly from Microsoft site Failed again.

I finally shut down the computer with hopes there will be some kind of correction issued by MS the next time I boot it up.

I’ve heard there are security updates included in the update so I an somewhat concerned.

    Comments and solutions are welcome.

Did you take a look at this page: https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/4462919 apparently you need an SSU installed before you attempt to install, this one:https://support.microsoft.com/en-ca/help/4456655 which should have been offered first or installed first before installing KB4462929.
Although looking at my machine, I can find no record of KB4456655 being offered or installed and seeing as we are at DefCon 1, I have got KB4462919 hidden here waiting results, seems like Oct is a bit of a mess for patches.
You can find the errant “missing” SSU in the Catalogue here: http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/search.aspx?q=kb4456655 try that, that may help hope it works for you.

      BobbyB,

What do you mean by “I have got KB4462919 hidden”?

    • #226030

Sorry maybe I should have explained, I use WUMT and/or wushowhide to check for updates as do many in here to hide updates from the Windows update service until they are deemed error free or fit to be installed and a couple of times this summer actually I have skipped a month entirely in which case Win10 goes to the next cumulative update. They both work well and actually have stopped forced upgrades for me and one or two others although not a 100% effective really have to be run at start up and regularly on patch Tuesdays preferably in conjunction with a “metered connection”
      WUMT-21-10-18
WUMT doesnt come recommended by @woody “per se” of dubious parentage from Russia contact address in Mexico need I say more?? but it works for me and no perceived problems here or “nasties” as you can see KB4462919 is hidden.
      wushowide-21-10-18
Microsft’s solution not as detailed and a little slower than WUMT, to use simply click on advanced then deselect “apply repairs automatically” run and select the updates you may want to hide, best results better to run at Boot/Logon every time if there’s a difficult update coming down the pipeline or until it gets the “all clear” in here.

I tried downloading and installing it Directly from Microsoft site Failed again.

Did you down load it as a standalone to your desktop rather than “run from download” i.e. should be in a “standalone folder” ??? If that’s failed then I am at a loss, well not quite it depends how desperate you are to install this update the 3rd option I guess would be to use DISM from a Boot stick/USB but it requires a fair bit of CMD/WINRE/PE skills and not really a 100% guaranteed, works with a dual/multiboot sort of reluctant to type all that out as its a pain for the average user and a little involved. hope that clears things up for you 🙂

Thank you for your comprehensive information. Most of which I will try to tackle when I have the time and a fresh head.

BTW yes I tried install it Standalone Installer. Still failed.

Is it safe to push October 2018 Patches for a small number of users. Or should i wait for MS-Defcon to come down to 3 ?

I finally decided to do a fresh reinstall from an ISO Disc of 1803. Updates installed OK including KB4462919 .

I took the opportunity to use a larger disc for the operating system. ( it is almost a necessity to have more space since MS clutters up your hard drive every time it “updates” to a new version).

So now I will spend most of the day reinstalling programs and getting convenience shortcuts back on my desktop (W7 Style) etc.
