I have it installed on my Win 7 without any adverse effects that I know of, but I don’t use any Bluetooth devices which it breaks.

If you use Bluetooth then the general advice is not to install it.

Microsoft has re-released the KB3172605 update through Windows Update and Microsoft Update Catalog and has labeled this update as a Recommended one as of September 12, 2016.

If you have installed the “original” KB3172605 update and Windows Update offers it again, let WU install the revised KB3172605 update and restart the computer for the revised patch to take effect (yes you can install the re-released KB3172605 over the original one).

Also Intel has posted updated Bluetooth drivers & software on this forum page that are compatible with the KB3161608 & KB3172605 updates:

There is a download link for xxxxxx605 in the Sticky Post, “How to fix Windows Update Slow….” When I tried to install it the message that popped up was to first install the other program. I installed both and it fixed my problem with downloads that never download (0%) and the length of time to find updates.

Can you post your solution with links to what you used in http://windowssecrets.com/forums/showthread//177542-DL-Speed-Fix-STOP-WU-Nets-quot-STOPPING-quot and perhaps that may also resolve for Craig.

The first sticky post at the Windows 7 forum is titled ” Windows 7 Update solution“, and comes from JoeP517, Administrator. He refers to a another post, “Windows 7 Update solution“. I followed the instructions exactly, and my updating problems disappeared. The solution comes from Microsoft and is a very recent fix. JoeP517’s post got numerous replies, among which was a further solution, “Solve Windows Update problem (High CPU & memory usage)”, with a link.

              Hope this helps.

I was hoping you would have put this reply into the thread I’d linked, but thanks for the clarification.

Sorry, but at this point, because I had to go through several links and numerous postings and then get back to the forum, I really lost track of where I started and which posting I was answering. I hope that everyone who needs this solution can find it.
