Can somebody tell me why the “January 2017 Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7”, KB 3213646, isn’t available? I get “this page doesn’t exist.”

      Couldn’t tell you why…

It’s still listed on the Catalog…

W, busy with other stuff, but you’re not alone: https://www.google.com/search?q=kb3212646&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8#q=kb3212646&tbs=qdr:w . Looks like it started yesterday.

    • #11672

      Weird, isn’t it?

    • #11673

      It is not expired.

    • #11674

      Hello,
KB3212646 is the January, 2017 Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 for x64-based Systems. It’s available in the MS Catalog (just downloaded it) but you are right; clicking the “more information” link leads to a “the page doesn’t exist” message. I downloaded it but HESITATE to install it because of this post to the effect that it “shuts off” the audio system: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/update-kb3212646/ece6a3f9-8be9-4ef5-a8e1-7df06a56a961

      ????

    • #11675

      https://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Search.aspx?q=KB3212646

Didn’t install, but the x64 version downloaded fine.

    • #11676

I had it hidden, because I am in Group B, I took it out of hiding and did a WU scan, it is showing as being available to download but I got the same thing as you for “more info” and the tab for “support information” is unresponsive.

    • #11677

Just downloaded both x86 and x64 from Microsoft Update Catalog. (Not that I’m actually going to install them you understand – I’m Group B)

    • #11678

Yep, I had no problem downloading them either. But why is the KB article missing?

    • #11679

I wonder if the post on Answers is due to a driver update that didn’t go well…

    • #11680

There appear to be problems with WordPerfect, at least for some:

Windows Updates Causing WP “Printing Problem
Is anyone else having problems with Windows 7 updates causing WPX8 to become unresponsive and crashing after sending a document to their printer and it not being printed? For me the problem first surfaced in Autumn 2016 with Windows Security Monthly Quality Rollup for Windows 7 (KB3197868) and repeats every month. The latest was yesterday with KB3212646. I have to uninstall the updates to get back to normal working. This is not a satisfactory solution and I’d be grateful for advice about the…”. http://officecommunity.com/wordperfect/

On a related note, anyone know why this page still doesn’t have any information about the January 2017 patches at all yet?
      http://support.microsoft.com/kb/894199

I just don’t know what is going on with Microsoft anymore. Is that company having a collective nervous breakdown?

    • #11682

I did a rebuild today for Group A User. It downloaded off WU OK.

    • #11683

I was wondering that, too. Even if they are bracing for a change in security numbering (no Security Bulletins), that’s no excuse for ignoring stuff coming down the Windows Update chute.

      @Woody:

There may be a few “clues”. ???

I have not checked for “NEW” updates since January 12th.

I have checked on the 15th and the 18th. Nothing “new” was added. HOWEVER: The DEFINITION UPDATE does change (I never use it). The only possible change there could have been to the updates could have been the most recent DEFINITION FOR THE WINDOWS DEFENDER. THE MSRF tool is still there as well, however that usually doesn’t change.
I don’t use the MSRF either.

***KB3212646 is still there, and those are all that are listed. (3 of them)

      *****
NOW I had a problem (yesterday I think it was) with WORK PERFECT!!

I had a small document open, and wanted to delete it. It WOULD NOT DELETE. I’ve never had a problem with WORK PERFECT since I’ve had this Win 7 x64, Home Premium (purchased new) about 3 years ago. I had to let the computer do a forced closure to shut it down. No problems since, and I have not tried WORD PERFECT again. I seldom, if ever use WORD PERFECT, and never use any of the MS word programs.

I think I saw a brief message recently
referencing that MS may be changing their DEFINITION UPDATES.

The KB3212646 remains in the Important Updates (along with the MSRF & the most recent Definition Update.

I hope this may be of some help with the solving the problems.

This is only a report of what I’ve recently noticed within the past few days. I have no idea of what has occurred, however the reference to WORD PERFECT set off bells.

I hope that one of our very knowledgeable
members will have some ideas as to what has occurred.

Thank you, Woody, and to all of the others who help so much!! 🙂

      @Woody:

      P.S. I’m GROUP B.

    • #11686

I bookmarked this page on 01/11/2016. Today it doesn’t exist. Completely vaporized. Interestingly, the Security Only Rollup version page for this update was bookmarked on the same date, and this page still exists:

      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3212642/january-2017-security-only-quality-update-for-windows-7-sp1-and-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1

I assume that this is yet another Microsoft update fiasco since Nadella killed Microsoft’s update quality assurance team and instead left all issues to the individual developer of the update. Never leave anything to the individual programmer since the individual programmer will repeatedly overlook his/her code errors and since the individual programmer tends to repeat the very same mistakes in the future. For example, NASA, has the equivalent of independent “overseers” who constantly monitor and prevent such mistakes. You can’t teach an old dog new tricks. This is why you have outside and independent review.

    • #11687

Well, Firefox just crashed for the first time in months while I posted my last comment in this thread. Hmm…time for me to dump this January Security Only Update and see if things get back to normal — days without rebooting my Win7 machines and no program crashes.

    • #11688

As of this comment (7:47 PM, January 18, 2017) the Windows 7 update history page still lists it. Might change.
      https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/22801/windows-7-sp1-and-windows-server-2008-r2-sp1-update-history

    • #11689

      Ah, there it is!

      Only now it’s listed as “Article ID: 3212646 – Last Review: Jan 18, 2017 – Revision: 2”

    • #11690

Something happened. It came back in the past hour – and now it’s up to Version 2.

    • #11691

Full details coming very early in the morning.

    • #11692

      Weird.

    • #11693

it seems that it was a temporary flaw – I’m able to access https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3212646/january-2017-security-monthly-quality-rollup-for-windows-7-sp1-and-win

or do you refering to another page? I never used this update on my machines – instead I installed Security-only update KB3212642 from MS update catalog.

    • #11694

BTW: The audio problem referenced in https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-windows_install/update-kb3212646/ece6a3f9-8be9-4ef5-a8e1-7df06a56a961 has nothing to do with kb-3212646 – it’s related to the mysterious Intel driver updates.

    • #11695

Looks like they revised the KB article to fix the slowdown issue with the page when opening in IE, that I flagged up previously:

      https://www.askwoody.com/2017/windows-7-8-1-patches-are-up/comment-page-1/#comment-114336

by moving the file list to a .CSV file

    • #11696

Fascinating! Yep, that would explain it.

    • #11697

Yep, it did sound like a driver problem.

    • #11698

It was offline for many hours yesterday, then suddenly reappeared. Interesting conjecture that the article was re-written to use a CSV file, but you have to wonder why it was out for so long.

    • #11699

      Properties

Article ID: 3212646 – Last Review: Jan 19, 2017 – Revision: 2 (but that could be a time-zone thing, being in Europe)

    • #11700

All new updates now have their support articles as /help/ instead /kb/
      i.e.
      https://support.microsoft.com/help/3212646
      https://support.microsoft.com/kb/3212646
some older support articles are being migrated to new url as well
but some still available in both

the reason for the temporary takedown is here 😀
      https://www.askwoody.com/2017/windows-7-8-1-patches-are-up/comment-page-1/#comment-114368
the first article revision was listing all files, which made the page loading very slow

    • #11701

I posted my comment below before i see yours 🙂
      yes that’s the obvious reason

    • #11702

Thanks for the info. Was planning on (or at least considering) installing the updates tonight, and this issue had me a bit worried. I’ve luckily never even been offered the Intel driver… possibly because I have an AMD processor in my rig 😛

    • #11703

This update kb3212646 adds diagtrack service back just tested and microsoft aint saying nuthin about that in kb documentation…

    • #11704

Cumulative = contain all things from previous updates
they already explaind and announced diagtrack existence in KB3192403 Monthly Rollup, all following rollups will continue to have it

    • #11705

is there anything else that have been included ?

    • #11706

Yeah, the KB article was posted just a couple hours after I posted this.

    • #11707
