A new version is available 9.0.0.463. Just downloaded it and it automatically updated/replaced my earlier 2010 version. A hasle free update it seems.

RonHello Ron. Correct me if i am wrong, but doesn’t”Kaspersky” emanate from Russia?( good luck with that) Wouldn’t trust that as far as i could “boot” it. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kaspersky_Lab. Regards

Absolutely, as that article you link to says “The anti-virus software testing group AV-Comparatives gave the Windows XP version of Kaspersky AV an “Advanced+” rating (its highest) in both its February 2008 on-demand detection test (with the fourth highest detection rate among 16 products tested)”
Oh wait, you’re slagging them off. Sorry I thought you were pointing out how good they were and were therefore being ironic when you said “Wouldn’t trust that as far as i could “boot” it”
Like your avatar by the way, now that’s ironic.

A lot of security products use technology from Russia and Eastern Europe. Microsoft Forefront apparently bundles virus engines from both Kaspersky and Virusbuster (Hungary). That doesn’t mean you have to trust those companies with your credit card number, but hopefully you can trust them to guard your PC.

I don’t use it, having stayed with Norton (currently NIS 2009) for the past four years (it’s never let me down, so why change?). But for what it is worth, I note that Barclays (UK) banking group promotes Kaspersky routinely for the security of its internet banking customers. Now there’s a starter for conspiracy theories – if anyone ever needed one!!!

I believe that in this instance, and this instance alone, you are not correct!

Oh, I am well aware of the linked page, but you obviously don’t appreciate the other fees that are paid to subsidise this offer!
On the other hand, it could just be me who is subsidising everyone else – it certainly seems like it sometimes

AskWoody LoungerAugust 26, 2009 at 3:45 am #1175013Wow … how to smoke out the enthusiasts among us!
I have often wondered how to pronounce ‘Kaspersky’ … is it Kasper sky or Kasper spy. But whatever I reckon that its a b….. good AV, easy to use, well designed for idiot proofing (me!), priced OK, very quick with ‘help’ and above all it seems to do the job its designed for … though maybe they add something we don’t know about! No, only joking. Thanks Kaspersky for doing a great job … yes I am biased but I have also previously had experience of Norman, Norton and McAfee.
Keep the comments coming!

AskWoody LoungerDecember 3, 2009 at 9:57 am #1188080I’ve been using Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 on my new x64 W7 computer for several weeks now and I’m pleased with it. I’ve used SAV/Norton for years and my general impression is that KIS 2010 works as well or better and the system doesn’t incur the big performance hit that I’ve come to accept from SAV/Norton.
