Position over link and press scroll button. Logitech M510 wireless usb. Most of the time it will pop up a new tab, some times I have to press very hard to get it to work. Took it apart and blew out one dust kitty. Most of the time seems fine. Can’t recall I had this prob when using linux.

Need something that works witn 11 – suggest brand/model. $25 range. Can get Amazon ofrMicrocenter. Just wasted over an hour on chat with Logitech  – had me add  a logi plus app that was supposed to connect it but couldn’t find it on 3 different ports.

    THANKS!!! Should be so simple!!!

I take it you’ve already changed the battery for a new one??

Also, just how old is the mouse? Since you say that you sometimes have to press the scroll button really hard to get it to work, it could be that it’s by now seen better days and is slowly giving up the proverbial ghost.

      Just a couple of thoughts!

Yes, new batteries. I don’t believe it is more than 6mos old. Again, I don’t believe I had this prob on linux. I have a wired kensington that has the same prob. I have a no-name that does not have that prob but keeps my computer awake. I just discovered a Logitech wired hero g502 that I thought I had tossed so am trying that. I long since threw out the weights. I hate the size and slippery wheel but I’ll try it for a few days. I hate like heck to just get another 510 though I like the size/shape.

Thinking about it I don’t know if I had the prob when I was using a MS login on 11, but I cannot remember accurately. (using local login now).

EDIT: Thinking more about this I have more recently got different mice, apparently all from Microcenter as no orders on Amazon, so this prob may have been with me for a while(year?). But I would not get another 510 but maybe a similar logitech altenative? or other brand?

I’ve never had a problem with any plain old generic 3 button wired mice from wait for it, wait for it…..Microsoft.

No, I’m not an employee of theirs, but I’ve had decent luck with their mice since 2005. I’ve only had to replace them when they’ve worn out…a button not working is the only reason I’ve had, and that happened twice within a few months, first on one mouse then the other mouse.

I used a couple of mice from Logitech way back in the late 90’s, and they worked fine back then, but eventually gave up the ghost. I replaced them with MS mice because I got a good deal on them at the time.

However, it was kinda hard to find wired MS plain vanilla mice last time I replaced them about 4 years ago, just before Covid. I wound up having to order them through Office Depot, but it only took a couple of days to get them. I’m using those currently. They co$t about $17 or $18 each when I bought them, IIRC.

Have you had much luck with the other wired mouse you found??

But I would not get another 510 but maybe a similar logitech alternative? or other brand?

I’m using a Logitech M215 Gen 2/K330 wireless mouse/keyboard combo that I bought from Amazon in January 2017.  The only issue I’ve had was intermittent freezing, and moving the USB receiver from the back of the case to the front made that a non-issue.  I’ve replaced batteries numerous times, but that’s it.

Prior to that I was using a Microsoft wireless combo, but they got too pricey.  I don’t think Logitech makes either of them anymore.

Yeah. Thanks all. I discovered my unknown wired mouse is a coolermaster mm711 but for some reason it wakes my computer up a few seconds after it goes to sleep. So I took the M510 apart again and this time removed the wheel and cleaned and poked around and it is indeed quite possible that the little pushbutton for the scroll wheel is either defective or just worn out. I will order another M510 or M525 or something similar. I will mark this solved for now.

      Again, thanks all!!!

a coolermaster mm711 but for some reason it wakes my computer up a few seconds after it goes to sleep.

Most likely that particular mouse is very sensitive to vibrations and is moving “just enough” to wake the computer.

You could stop it from happening by going to Device Manager > Mice and other pointing devices > Cooler Master MM711 > Properties > Power Management and uncheck the “Allow this device to wake the computer” option.

One catch with doing that is you’d have to use the keyboard to wake you computer from sleep mode.

No. I took it MM711 down to linux last night and it wouldn’t let it sleep. Defective. I just didn’t notice it when I got it. Bad me – I could have simply returned it.

Despite this thread being marked as Resolved, I feel I just have to chime in. I think Logitech may have gone just a bit too cheap on the middle button for the M510.

I use the M510 daily on my company-issued Windows 10 work notebook, and have for years. For several of those the middle click worked flawlessly, but eventually I started getting the same unreliable behavior as the OP. I don’t have to press forcefully to get it to work, but at just the right angle.

I never though it was OS-related, so I just tested it on my home Linux Mint desktop, and the behavior didn’t change.

For work, I was an extremely heavy user of that function, so I assume I’ve worn it out. I’ve since optimized my workflow a bit so as to not need it much, and now just occasionally use Ctrl+click since my left hand is always on the keyboard anyway. I probably won’t replace the M510 unless I wear out left- or right-click, and then I’ll go right back to abusing middle click.

For personal use of other PCs, I’m still a heavy user of middle click. Those machines have other Logitech models, some of which are older than the M510 with no loss of function. My favorite is the G400s, which I consider to be the perfect size and shape for a mouse, matching the original version of the MX500 and many other models over the years.

Thanks. Nice to know I’m not alone. There is not really a shape alternative to the M510. I will go down to Microcenter and grab one later today. Amazon takes 3 days for Prime. The G502 would be okay but the wheel is quite slipery.

I got another M510 and a 3yr warranty – 25+5 – Microcenter. Should hopefully shut me up for a bit!!! Thanks all!
