      As a Windows 11 Home user, I’m hoping that one of your reviews will talk about what, if anything, you greatly miss from Windows 11 Pro that’s not available on your new Win 11 Home laptop.

      There are sites selling licensed upgrades from Home to Pro for about $12.

      Still, I don’t think I need remote desktop, BitLocker, sandbox, group policy, etc. Or do I?

        I honestly don’t feel that $12 is a legit purchase price.

        The main thing is the lack of local group policy.  Otherwise I have to use registry keys to control the stuff I might want to do.

      We are thinking about purchasing another laptop.

      Out of curiosity,  what HP laptop with Windows 11 Home did you buy?

      Is it new or refurbished?

      Are you using it as delivered or have you modified it?

        New — HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eg3097nr, Windows 11 Home, 15.6″, Intel® Core™ i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, FHD, Natural silver

        Right now I’m going to leave it as is and not rip anything out from it (even though I really want to rip out McAfee antivirus) and just feel the Microsoft experience without a Microsoft account for now.

          Are you sure that McAfee antivirus is part of the “Microsoft experience” or is it an app installed by HP and part of the HP experience.

          The first thing we do with a new HP computer is to install Revo Uninstaller and remove the non-Microsoft software including McAfee antivirus.  We also remove Microsoft 365.

          According to the PC’s specifications, the HP Pavilion Laptop 15-eg3097nr ships with the following apps:

          • McAfee LiveSafe™ 30-day trial offer (Internet access required. First 30 days included. Subscription required for live updates afterwards.);
          • 1-month Adobe free trial offer Biometric Fingerprint Reader;
          • Duet® for HP (30 day free trial); and
          • 1 month trial for new Microsoft 365 customers. [2,25][24]

          And the apps require:

          Note 2     “Internet access required and not included. McAfee is pre-installed on your PC and an account is required for activation. Subscription renewal required after trial period. VPN feature is not available in India, China, Syria or North Korea. McAfee is not compatible with Windows 11 in S mode. You’ll need to permanently switch out of S mode. There’s no charge to switch out of S mode, but you won’t be able to turn it back on.”

          Note 25     Microsoft 365, “Offer available worldwide (excluding China and embargoed countries or other countries identified as restricted by applicable law or regulation) to new and existing subscribers who are 18+. Click on the Adobe icon in the start menu to redeem a 1-month free trial membership for select Adobe software. The software is tied to the device and is not transferrable. If you would like to sign up for an auto-renewing subscription, you can provide your payment method at sign-up. By adding a payment method, your subscription will automatically renew at the then current rate on your renewal date until you cancel. If you cancel before the end of the one-month free trial, you won’t be charged. You can cancel your subscription anytime via your Adobe Account page or by contacting Customer Support. Please see current prices for Adobe products available in this offer. Offer not available to Education, OEM, or volume licensing customers. Subject to availability where the recipient resides. Additional terms and conditions may apply. VOID WHERE PROHIBITED OR RESTRICTED BY LAW.”

          Note 24      Microsoft 365, “Must activated within 180 days of Windows activation.

          Clearly, other than Windows and Microsoft 365, the included apps are not part of the “Microsoft experience” and may not be included on laptops that are not made by HP.

            I’m wallowing in the OEM experience to be exact.  What a normal consumer gets from their OEM purchase.

      I purchased an HP Envy 17.3 inch Windows 11 Pro 22H2 laptop about six months ago, now updated to 23H2, with a 512 Gb SSD and no spinning hard drive. I’d be interested to read if your battery performance is similar to my experience. The HP utility says the battery is performing as designed and normally; but it loses about 9% of total battery capacity every 24 hours that it is off with rapid boot disabled and not sleeping or hibernating (totally shut down and unplugged). My Samsung Galaxy S20 5G smartphone also uses about 9% of total battery capacity every 24 hours; but that’s with the screen off and the smartphone on and connected to the wi-fi router cable modem and standing-by listening to the cell towers for incoming calls and messages. The laptop is completely powered off and unplugged after a full normal Windows log-off and shut-down. When I power it up and boot-up the OS and check under the power tabs in settings, it shows that the only thing using battery power during the previous 24 hours, when it was shut down, was the screen. But the screen was off when the laptop was previously powered off and shutdown; and everything appeared to shut off and close down normally. I’m wondering if it’s the SSD that bleeds off battery capacity even when shut down.

        It was still at 100% 24 hours after turning it off.  I should log in with a Microsoft account and see if there is any different.
