In Outlook 2007, I have selected “no filtering” for junk.

AskWoody MVPOctober 5, 2015 at 7:20 am #1530945Spooz, there may be a filter set in your email which directs mail to the junk folder. This is not the same as setting the junk mail options to “no filtering”.
Another thing to check: I’m pretty sure this is in Outlook 2007, but I know it is in Outlook 2010:
Click File / Options / Advanced. Under “Outlook Start and Exit”, make sure that “Start Outlook in this folder” is not set to “Junk e-mail”.Group "L" (Linux Mint)

Click File / Options / Advanced. Under “Outlook Start and Exit”, make sure that “Start Outlook in this folder” is not set to “Junk e-mail”.I have been looking for a way to filter all my incoming mail into the Junk folder in order to white list and move wanted to mail into proper folders. I have a zillion (well maybe only a million) spam emails incoming that I don’t want to set up a million filters for, and I do want to keep the email address so I don’t have to change all my subscriptions etc. I’m using Outlook 2013 and I see the start in folder in the advanced options. I get far more junk than legit email, and since I want to keep this addy I’ll have to watch my junk ‘leftovers’ by arranging the junk folder to show by name and scan for legit emails and then filter them etc.
Is this a reasonable think to do, are there any potential problems I’ve overlooked here? I’ve asked about doing this in this? and other forums and everyone has said I couldn’t filter all mail into the junk folder and then apply filters to forward the legit emails. The only potential problem I see is that this should work on my PC, but probably not on my cellphone.
Any and all suggestions are welcome.
Thanks,
Norm

AskWoody LoungerOctober 19, 2015 at 4:46 pm #1533377For most people it’s a bad strategy to treat all mail preemptively as junk and then try to create non-junk rules.
No matter how many junk mail filters you have (or think you’ll have), you’ll have less of those than you’d get for non-junk filters. And the problem with doing whitelist filtering are the false positives. Legitimate e-mail can be much more open-ended than the illegitimate stuff.
However one has to ask, why so much junk mail? Most ISPs filter for spam nowadays and are pretty effective.
