Another June 2021 problem: The Windows 8.1 security only update KB5003681 breaks the real-time protection in the W8.1 version of Windows Defender – see https://www.askwoody.com/forums/topic/win8-1-patch-test-progress/#post-2370857 for details.
Still no acknowledgement or solution from MS to the x86 PC boot issues. See this MS Forum Thread
It’s KB5003690 for versions 2004/20H2/21H1:
Releasing Windows 10 Build 19043.1081 (21H1) to Beta & Release Preview Channels
I have Windows 10 Pro. Last week I was still using the 1909 update when I saw Susan’s article to update Windows 10 ASAP to 20H2. I tried to download it but it would only install to 49%. After talking with 3 or 4 Microsoft entry-level tech support staff, I was told my computer was on pause and to wait for 7 days. A week later, I tried again with the same results. Called Microsoft again. This tech had me downloading 21H2 without my permission. To stop it he first had me try task manager which didn’t work so he then said to turn off my computer while it had already downloaded 79%. I’m not a professional so I turned off the computer. He said I couldn’t get 20H2. I was furious with him. I then asked to be escalated to higher-tech support. This person was very good so I was able to get the update. After the update, this morning the desktop on my external monitor is magnified so much that all the ends of my browsers, start, date, and time are off the page. She said the drivers were taken away from the 20H2 update to put in the 21H2 update and it would be impossible for me to fix this problem. Again I was furious. She’s escalated my case to a higher tier of support. Wish me luck tomorrow.
There are reports on problems installing KB5003638 on Windows Server 2016 according to this: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/answers/questions/429403/failed-installng-2021-06-cumulative-update-for-win.html
The update fails to install and when it rolls back it boots into safe mode. Has anyone had problems installing this update on WS2016?
Susan,
Warning: Office Updates (Office 2016 C2R 2106 Build 14131.20278) – available Friday July 2 – might have broken some Access Database connections. In particular this VB.NET command
Dim DBEngine As New AccessDAO.Dao.DBEngine
used to work Thursday, now it does not! (The code simply does not continue…)
We have not had time yet to figure out why or what the workaround might be.
Highly recommend disabling Office updates!
Argh!
