I just updated all my Office 2007 applications through Win Update, and KB3191898 was unchecked in my list, which included about 7 other patches for Office 2007. KB3203467 was checked along with the other Office 2007 patches. I installed all of them successfully, but installed 3191898 by itself after installing ALL the other Office 2007 updates I was offered and rebooting afterwards.

      … problems opening .rtf attachments:

Outlook 2007/2010 only, not Outlook 2013/2016:

      Workaround [Five alternatives]
Forward the email to yourself and then open the attachments from the forwarded email.
Change the email format to HTML, or Text format.
Save the attachments to your computer, using one of the following methods, then open them from the saved location:
Drag and drop the attachments to your desktop.
Go to File > Save Attachments.
Copy and paste the attachment to your computer.
You receive an error when opening attachments in Outlook (Last updated: June, 15 2017)

This came up for one of our users last week; had no idea it was related to an update.
The workaround we used (not listed above) is to open the email in OWA and then open or download the attachment from there.

I am so fed up with the incessant workarounds because of lousy QA. Nearly every single bloomin’ month there’s at least one botched patch with some show-stopper issue.

OMG, you mean security patches could be anything but perfect?!?

Seriously, that’s the trouble with things that are so complex that people can’t possibly get their heads around them.

But hey, who needs testers? Microsoft has the public to test their software.

I’m debating whether it’s worth installing the Outlook 2010 update. Will cause problems if I do, may never miss it if I don’t. Hmmm.

Anyone notice search and indexing not working after the updates?
