I’ve been seeing changing in Java Licensing, but can’t quite figure it out.

Is a yearly payment required for the developers or users? Both?
We have about two or three programs that use Java, and we are a government agency.

One is Associated Press for retrieving news stories, I’ve asked them but didn’t get a definitive answer.

Any input, staying on topic of course, will be appreciated.

    Thanks.

I’ve never been a Java proponent/ avoid it when at all possible.

If Java absolutely must be used, look at OpenJDK first. I believe OpenJDK is free for anyone. If you use Oracle JRE, the user pays.

Note: I’m a software developer, not a lawyer. The above represents my understanding of how things were in the past (and perhaps still are?)

If all the Java apps you’re using are small/ do super simple things like fetching news stories, just rewrite [or hire a consultant to rewrite] the software to run on your native platform [or .NET if you’re married to Windows]
