Hi…. since (it seems) I downloaded some Firefox add ons, every time I log on to the net I get an Error Console pop up filling the screen and want to get rid of it, seems it is related to Java. I googled for an answer which I copy here: – ……..

The JavaScript Console (now called the Error Console) is what the Web Developer addon can be set to launch automatically when an error occurs. http://kb.mozillazine.org/JavaScript_is_not_Java
To stop the Java Console from appearing, you need to open the Java Control Panel > Advanced -> Java Console and change the setting there – Hide Console.

…… but I can’t follow the directions…. where is the Java Control Panel located please….. Regards Dave.

The error console is not the Java console, they are unrelated. The error console is part of Firefox.

Do you have the web developer add-on installed?
If you have that add-on, on the web developer toolbar select “Options > Options” to open the web developer options dialog.
In that options dialog go to the Miscellaneous section, and de-select the options to open the error console when a page generates errors.

The error console appearing automatically can be caused by other add-ons, for example the Mouse Gestures add-on has been known to cause this to happen, for details see Error Console Automatically Opens – mozillaZine Forums

If you do not have the Mouse Gestures add-on, you can troubleshoot your extensions to see if one of them is causing this to happen. For details of how to do that see Troubleshooting extensions and themes – Mozilla knowledge base

Hello Tony….the short answer is Yes I just downloaded the Mouse Gestures add-on a couple of days ago and the Errors Console problem synchronises with that date so I am inclined to uninstall it right away as I don’t really think it is of great assistance to me personally as I tend to gravitate to keyboard shortcuts anyway seeing too much mouse activity can lead ro RSI. So I have just used Revo Uninstaller and got rid of the said troublemaker. Firefox called for a reboot to complete the task and the when it did so, there was no sign of the Error Console page when I went to open Firefox. Hopefully that is the end of that but will let you know if it reappears. Many thanks Dave.
