January 2025 Security update for .NET 8.0 (KB5050525)

I’m under Windows 10, 22H2.

Checking the .NET version installed on my PC in the system Registry under HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\NET Framework Setup\NDP\v4\Full   the “Release” value is 533325 which, according to Microsoft, would mean .NET version 4.8.1.

For keeping my system updated, I’ve been using Belarc Advisor since very long time. Now, together with KB5051974 (to be kept at bay) Belarc tells me that KB5050525 is also needed, which is a .NET 8.0 security update, but I don’t think that 8.0 is installed.

Question: if the Belarc Advisor suggestion is correct, it means I have .NET 8.0 installed but I don’t know that: how can I find it out?

Unlike .NET Framework programs, your .NET (Core) Runtimes should be listed at Settings | Apps as well as Control Panel | Programs | Programs and Features. From my Win 10 machine, which has the Microsoft .NET Desktop Runtime v8.0.x.

NOTE that Desktop editions of the .NET Runtimes do not include the word “.NET” so search for “runtime”.

EDIT:  FYI, the latest update for Microsoft .NET Runtime v8.0.x is actually KB5052978 (rel. 11-Feb-2025) which installs v8.0.13.  This February update does not include a security fix so it is ignored by Belarc Advisor.
