      ? says:

hi gaz, looks like v12.10.10.2 from the list:

      https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_iTunes#iTunes_12

      apple support page says:

      https://support.apple.com/downloads/itunes

doesn’t specify which version maybe 12.10.8.5?. if you already have it installed just run the auto updater either from the itunes app or from windows “program files” or from windows installed program list….

    • #2317761

Gaz – if you’re going to stick with Win 7, you probably need to download and store the latest old version of iTunes that works with Win 7, because Apple Software Update is going to march you to the new version when you know that is not right.

      But, you do that anyway?

        You are missing a driver.
        Search for iTunesDriver64_02.
Which iPhone do you use ? Which OS ?

    • #2317766

because Apple Software Update is going to march you to the new version when you know that is not right.

No. Apple won’t march him into new updates of iTunes, iCloud…
When running iTunes you may get a windows stating of new version which you can ignore.
      There is no auto-update.

        any ideas appreciated

looks like i missed a solution, i tryed installing that driver as it was indeed missing [as was pointed out to me] but error msg said that that inf file selected will not support this method of installation.

does this mean i have wrong version?of either itunes or the driver
      thanks

sorry you are still having problems. have you looked at your oem driver .ini file to see what is there?

      https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-hardware/drivers/devtest/pnputil-command-syntax

pnputil.exe -e gives a list of oem files, then have you looked at usb in device manager? look in Portable Devices and Universal Serial Bus Controllers

and show hidden devices in device manager:

      https://kabheap.wordpress.com/2011/02/26/command-line-to-show-hidden-devices-in-device-manager/

      • #2318530

I think you should install the version I recommended for older video drives.

    • #2318532

      ? says:

alex’s advice to follow apples t-shoot page is a good place to start, then i would run the pnputil.exe -e in a cmd window to see if you have the usbaapl.64.inf on-board, and you could run the “show hidden devices,” on Device manager, too.

        1. Click Start>Run.

Type cmd.exe in the textbox and click OK.

Type set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices=1 and hit ENTER.

      Type cd\windows\system32 and hit ENTER.

Type start devmgmt.msc and hit ENTER.

When the device manager opens, click the View menu.

      Click Show Hidden Devices.

      and also item #7 from:

      https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/itunes-not-recognizing-iphone

daughter’s iphone 4 had this problem and maybe the pink ipod she got for “good grades, ” back in the day. i think i ran through everything and still had to back up the music to a plugin usb drive and then burn down the cottage as g. born would say…

        Download link works for me.

You should be logged-in to Google/gmail…

New software with drivers installations moved since Windows 10 to DCH (Declarative Componentized Hardware) from .inf
Maybe that’s the reason you can’t install .inf with new versions of iTunes.
From where did you download iTunes ?

I still think you need that old version of iTunes (I did on my Windows 7).

      Hi, I’m on Windows7  Ultimate ( 32bit ) and an old machine, and I’m using Itunes v 12.10.9.3.

I found this page very useful. https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6562.

You should be logged into your iPhone/Apple iTunes with you AppleID and then trust your PC.

Photos on the iPhone when connected to your PC (iPhone appears as device) are in DCIM folder.

If I remember correctly, I had to go into settings on my desktop iTunes to allow automatic log-ins.

I am on a almost 10 year old Win7Pro-64 PC that is running the newest version of iTunes. No problems. I use iTunes ONLY to transfer my existing MP3 rips to the iPad and a few to my iPhone. I do not have any music on iCloud as I only have the basic iCloud. I also do not backup photos to iCloud. I have excluded music, email, photos, and messages from the automatic iCloud backups of the phone and iPad. I move images and music to my main PC (Linux) and the Win7Pro-64 PC HDD and SSD and also have a USB HDD backup.

When I installed iTunes it nagged about iCloud for PC, but I dismissed them and in the Apple Software updater and the told it to ignore all software EXCEPT iTunes.

Another thing you may have to check is your iPhone settings, as to what you are allowing to be automatically backed up to iCloud, etc.

im going to remove my membership to i cloud soon as i can.

With no iCloud account you can’t backup/restore your iPhone in case of crash…

Your iPhone backups automatically to iCloud whenever it is charging and connected to your wi-fi network unless you disable the function.

ah, i assumed it was to the pc, interesting. anyway i wont be using backup the phone is not my main one, i just want to be able to get pics of it

whats next for me to try?

dont forget it asks to trust my pc every time it connects and Ive tried all fixes

      thanks

If I remember correctly, I had to go into settings on my desktop iTunes to allow automatic log-ins.

I am on a almost 10 year old Win7Pro-64 PC that is running the newest version of iTunes. No problems. I use iTunes ONLY to transfer my existing MP3 rips to the iPad and a few to my iPhone. I do not have any music on iCloud as I only have the basic iCloud. I also do not backup photos to iCloud. I have excluded music, email, photos, and messages from the automatic iCloud backups of the phone and iPad. I move images and music to my main PC (Linux) and the Win7Pro-64 PC HDD and SSD and also have a USB HDD backup.

does anyone know what things i lose if i reset the phone and which things the backup will restore

      thanx

If you reset your iPhone wiping all apps and data you lose will everything and get the iPhone in the state as new.
If you made a backup to iCloud or locally on your PC, restore will bring back everything.
If you created an encrypted local backup you will get your passwords, health… too.
