Any members tried muting themselves to see what happens?
Yes, I just did that.
When muted, I couldn’t see any of my replies nor topics that I started. Instead, I saw everyone else’s topics and replies on my profile page under Topics started and Replies created.
To remove the proverbially self-applied duct tape from my mouth, I simple removed myself from the list of muted users on my profile page and, voilà I was back.
not MUTE USER which is badly broken and should be avoided by all.
Any chance of a test routine to illustrate ‘badly broken’?
I just gave it a quick try and it worked, reset it and now it doesn’t (as designed). That leaves one ‘reported’ scenario where ?iPad? users wouldn’t be able to reset without a mouse, are there any others?
Anything other than switching on/off difficulties experienced or reported?

Mute any user. View Topics Started and Replies Created from any user’s profile (even your own); all results are retuned, unfiltered for the profile’s user.
Unmute the user and searching from profiles for Topics Started and Replies Created behave as expected again.

Muted Forums and Muted Users work OK from a touch screen; you just can’t see which is which easily by hovering to get the tooltip text popup. But that’s just because there are now nine icons on a single row, leaving insufficient room for the icons’ text which used to be there always when there were less icons on that single row.
I am listening. I muted you. I go into your topics started/replies. While there are listings there I can’t see your replies.
Whose topics and replies do you see if not mine?
With me muted, look for any other user’s topics and replies. What do you see?
I see others who have posted on whatever threads you have posted it. It mutes your postings but still shows anyone else who has posted in a thread. You are going to have to give me a screen shot or record a video if yours isn’t working like that because I have different rights on the forum than you. Sorry this is the annoying thing about filing bugs. I have to repro first to then be able to report back to the plug in vendor.

Remember, as I stated earlier, I am admin on the site. I do not have the same user rights as you. I cannot repro whatever issues you are seeing. When I mute you I just mute you. I see everyone else’s posts and comments.
Can you send me a screenshot to either sb – at – askwoody.com or customersupport – at – askwoody.com so I can follow up with the plug in vendor? Thanks in advance.

When you look for someone else’s topic or replies, with me or any user muted, do you see only topics or replies for that other user?
First off you can’t mute anyone with administrator rights.
Didn’t try that.
Who exactly are you trying to mute?
I just said, ANYONE.
Could you not at least TRY what I’ve now asked three times?
When you look for someone else’s topic or replies, with me or any user muted, do you see only topics or replies for that other user?
I have tried. Again, I’m an adminstrator on the site and thus cannot repro as I do not have your same rights.
You can’t log in as a member for test purposes?
(I’m sure I’ve seen you do that before.)
Ergo why I’m asking for screen shots.
In the second of my two screenshots, should I see topics started by others when I’ve selected topics started by you?
It only happens after any user is muted.
So that I communicate clearly with the vendor, the issue is with the topics started/replies started views? Any other pages/views?
If anyone mutes another then everyone shares the same topic/reply history for the person who has anyone on mute.
See my earlier screenshots below, mute anyone then check with a low count Member.
So the suspicion is that with eg. @b muted ‘his’ Topics are shown minus his OP + contributions?
Similarly with ‘his’ replies, the conversations are shown, minus his replies?
I’m sure there are uses for a format like that but it’s not working the way I’d have expected it to.
ADDING: No, that’s a waste of server power in my book, showing a msg ‘unmute first’ would keep costs and explanations (paid + volunteer time) down.
I have no desire to mute anyone because it would take away from the entertainment, not to mention some of the key points you can pick up in order to solve one problem or another. I think everyone here at the forum has something to offer.
MacOS iPadOS and sometimes SOS
Something I’m wondering about:
If User Y mutes User Z, but Z hasn’t muted Y, then as I understand it this means that Z can see and reply to Y’s posts even though Y can’t see those replies. Doesn’t this mean that Y therefore can’t defend herself from Z’s criticism or respond to snarky remarks by Z? Any comments by Z will necessarily go unchallenged, unless a third participant takes up Y’s cause.
Do I have that right?
Not trying to imply anything or to lead the conversation in a particular direction, just trying to understand the implications of muting other users.
Thanks.
