One of my professors has a school-issued (so it’s managed by the school’s IT department, he can’t make any personal changes to the machine) HP ZBook mobile workstation notebook, likely on Windows 10 since the school is already using Windows 10 widely. It’s a brand-new notebook.

Yesterday, when he had Zoom fired up, there were flashes of white lines off and on during the video meeting. Rebooting the machine helped a little, but the flashes came back. He could see the flashes himself when he looked at his own video during the meeting.

I’m trying to pinpoint the issue for him to give to his IT department so they can resolve it.

I don’t believe it’d be hardware-related on a new machine unless he received a fluke machine.

My guess is it could be driver related with the webcam or whatever software the HP ZBook uses to control the webcam.

No one else on Zoom had the issue, so I don’t believe it’d be a Zoom issue.

Does anyone have any recommendations for me? Thanks!

A borrowed USB webcam may help determine the issue.

I just experienced a similar issue with a user’s Dell Latitude 5280. Long story short, before sending the laptop off to Dell I had backed up the user data and tried reinstalling Windows 10, which did not help! Dell Support also tried reinstalling Windows 10. They then replaced the webcam, display and display cable. The laptop is now working correctly during Zoom nd Team video calls. Hope this helps.
