GuestJune 11, 2016 at 7:41 pm #41109Noticed something similar. Office 365 pro plus on an enterprise sub. 2016 version…Office would indicate it was up to date last 2 months but the version wasn’t up to date. I determined that by the fact that I didn’t have the text join function which came out 2 months back. By reinstalLing it caught up.

AskWoody_MVPJune 11, 2016 at 10:27 pm #41110I have an update. I uninstalled tens of Office Updates and now the issue appears to be fixed in the logs. However, Office is no longer up to date with patches. Which to me indicates that the Office supersedence is broken. This does not apply to Windows Update which uses a separate mechanism, the so called Component Based Servicing. Office uses something which I think is similar with Windows XP updating, based on msi installer files. Microsoft considers this form of update management as legacy, the mechanism implemented in Windows Vista and higher being considered superior. Office Update as it appears has not been upgraded yet like Windows Update.
It would be interesting to find from those who follow this site if those experiencing slow Windows Update have Office 2013 (or any other Office version) installed, as slow update can be related to Office as well and not only to Windows. The effects of Office can be isolated by unticking the box “Give me updates for Microsoft products…”.

AskWoody_MVPJune 11, 2016 at 10:30 pm #41111Please be aware that a recent Windows Optional update can cause problems with Office. This is KB3139923.
Details about the interaction with Office updates are here https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/3148775 -

Goodness me, but they do _know what they are doing_: they are putting their efforts into “changing how the world works”!
(Business-oriented social network site hails deal as “a chance to change how the world works”: https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2016/jun/13/linkedin-bought-by-microsoft-for-262bn-in-cash)
With that sort of avocational calling, there is no time or manpower or moral compunction for them to honor past sales/past products or existing customer agreements — sheesh!
They must now swallow and digest (and decompose) another brand new (yet characteristically one that is already faded and on a downward slope) acquisition that they again paid too much for — think of all the new creative ways they can use it to force unwanted complications, spying, personal expense, and loss of time and convenience onto folks!
Being a computer company, a service company, that is so late 20th Century. World domination isn’t just a rhetorical phrase to trot out at corporate pep rallies!
