• Is email from “Microsoft” okay?

    I’m probably being paranoic, but:
I have an email that came into my inbox this morning from Microsoft, with the title:”Our terms of use are changing.”

If I look at Properties/Details it says it’s from: email@microsoft.microsoft.com

Has anyone else gotten this email; or should I just delete it?

I don’t want to just open it without checking here first.

    Thanks for any advice offered,
    Dick

      Dick,

Yes I also received this email. I was also suspicious but having good A/V and anti-malware protection I opened it and it seemed innocuous enough. However, I did NOT click on any of the links! If I was interested in reading any of the reverenced material I would have gone to the MS website myself and searched for the documents. HTH

P.S. I also noted that the email used the address associated with my MS account.

May the Forces of good computing be with you!

Hackers and virus peddlers often use an address that is so slightly wrong that no one notices. In this one the word microsoft appears twice. Dealing with MS ever since Windows 3, I’ve never seen them use the word microsoft twice.

Just because someone else has received this doesn’t mean it’s free of little nasties.

You could ask Microsoft. Otherwise, it’s not safe.

Anytime you receive something you were not expecting, DELETE IT!

It does seem Microsoft’s email terms of use are indeed changing. I have received one such email per Microsoft account I have and so has the rest of the family.

When you are unsure about a link DON’T click on it. Attempt to go straight to the source. Search for the item using your favorite search engine. Or just go to the main page for the site in your favorite browser and use the site search. A quick search for microsoft email terms of service yielded Microsoft Services Agreement as the first result.

And 1 trick I use is to copy a link in the email and paste it into google and see what comes up.

I am now one of the priveledged few that Microsoft has offered to assist.

I got my gf to bring her digital recorder over if there is a next time 😡
