    Though it isn’t a big problem, its irritating.

    Whenever I start outlook, typically after a reboot, I receive a message telling me only one copy of Outlook can be running at any one time – see attached picture. Outlook-Startup-Error

    It generally then carries on and loads Outlook.

    I have two profiles in Outlook, but it has only relatively recently started this behaviour. Does anyone know why this happens and what can be done to prevent it?

      A similar issue has been noted for Office 365 (recently July/Aug 2018) see the following link:
      https://www.slipstick.com/outlook/one-version-outlook-run-time/
      Looks like this is an MS bug, worth trying this workaround..?

      Remember to note the changes of the original somewhere first so, you can revert back should it either not work or an MS patch is issued to rectify 🙂

        Thanks Microfix,

        In fact I use Office 365, currently V18.06 Build 10228.20080.

        So that matches with the Slipstick post.

      @Microfix,

      Have set to use “/recycle” and initial tests seem good. Outlook now starts up more quickly!

      I’ll monitor and report back.

      I now see borncity has published an article on this issue, which also refers to the Slipstick method of a workaround. MS are/ should working on a hot-fix/patch although my searches haven’t found anything yet.

      I think this was fixed about six weeks ago. The version where it first occurred is now two months old (June 25). It doesn’t seem to happen with the last four releases of Office 365 updates during July or August. But the complete lack of documentation from Microsoft is atrocious.

      Good to know, Thanks.

      I’m waiting on Woody to go MS-DEFCON 3 for July, so have missed it yet.

      Just to confirm, “/recycle” works well and has the bonus of an increase in start-up speed too!
