Recently upgraded my iPhone 4s to iOS 6 and started having trouble with sending mail via Verizon POP3. For some reason Verizon thinks I’m sending mail to myself and the server sends the error message “The recipient hhh…@verizon.net (me) was rejected by the server because it does not allow relaying”. I was not sending to myself. Somehow the From became the To.
Receiving mail is fine. Any thoughts?
    Thanks, HH

Googled the error message and found the following solution on an Apple forum:

Go into Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars > Your Account > Outgoing mail Server SMTP > Primary Server then turn Server ON and fill in both User Name and Password under Outgoing Mail Server.

My server was ON but I needed to fill in the User Name & PW. Weird, because this worked fine before upgrade.
      Hope this helps someone else.
      HH
