I just upgraded to iOS 12.2, and bad news is it has mucked with my Apple Pay on both my iPhone XS and iPad Pro. It has wiped out all my cards from the Apple Pay Wallet section of the Settings app on both devices, and it is not allowing me to re-add the cards, saying I’ve added more than 12 cards to my iPhone and 8 cards to my iPad, which is incorrect since I only had two cards added on both devices, plus Apple Pay Cash. The cards aren’t showing up in Wallet either.

Strangely, the cards are showing in the Apple Pay Wallet section of the Watch app, but it did wipe out my bank account associated with Apple Pay Cash.

I have a ticket in with Apple Support to resolve the issue. I will report back what I find out.

In the meantime, if you heavily use Apple Pay, beware before upgrading to iOS 12.2. I haven’t seen this bug reported anywhere else, so I’m not sure if it’s isolated or more known, but you’re hearing it from me.

I’m almost there with Apple Support. I had to go to appleid.apple.com, remove the Apple Pay cards from all my devices, disable Apple Pay Cash on all my devices, disable Wallet syncing under iCloud settings, then reboot all my devices. I then went into wallet on one, manually added the cards back and re-enabled Apple Pay Cash, then I was able to easily add the cards and Apple Pay Cash to the other devices.

So far everything is working except Apple Pay Cash on the Watch app is not showing my bank account linked for transfers (it is showing on the iPad and on the iPhone Settings app). Adding the bank account again doesn’t work. I have a message into Apple Support to see how to resolve that, then I’ll be good to go.

I hope these instructions are beneficial if anyone else encounters the issue. If anyone gets stuck, let me know and I’ll go into more details.

That’s a load of work to fix something that shouldn’t be broken. Is there a patch in the works or would you need to wait for the next IOS version?

      cheers, Paul

Apple didn’t mention one to me when I talked with them. In order to release a patch, it would likely require a minor update to iOS, if Apple even addresses in an update. So far what I’ve done is the only way Apple told me to resolve it.
