Invalid Argument (Access 2000)

We are using a Product Called: Showcase Query that runs a Batch Job on the
AS/400 to create a file. We then ‘Retrieve the Batch Results’ from this
file and create a dbf file on the local PC. When we try to import this data
into our MSACCESS Database we are getting the message: Invalid Argument.

If we create a NEW MSACCESS Data base we are able to IMPORT the data. If we
try to import it again, we get the same error: Invalid Argument. We get the
same error when we then try to run our QUERY within MSACCESS.

It only appears to work the first time.

What is the format of the file created by the AS/400 process? If it’s a simple text (either fixed length or delimited), you should be able to import that directly into Access, and not go through the step of creating a .dbf (dBase I presume) file. It sounds like that is probably the process that is causing the error. I also don’t understand what the QUERY you refer to is about. It sounds like you may have a field name that looks like a Parameter to the query, but that’s just a guess at this point.

Thank you for your prompt reply. I’m an access rookie. I’m waiting to hear back from our IT guy. He’s the one that was kind enough to type out an explanation of the issues we were running into. He must have gotten tied up in meetings though.

I’m out of the office on Friday but hopefully, I’ll hear back from him and I’ll send you his reply on Monday. (I emailed your response to him earlier today)

I know that he tried to link with the ODBC Database() as the file type. I can’t remember the errors that he got on that but he wasn’t able to do it. I may not have had enough security or something.

Again, I appreciate your help. Sorry it dropped after that but I don’t know that much about the AS400.
