Trying to set up Internet synchronization with Acc 97, and am completely stumped. Everytime I try to sync from a workstation, it fails with an error message: “Internal Internet Failure”

I have followed the instructions from “Internet synchronization with the Jet DBE: Technical Overview” by Michael Wachal.

Originally set up on Win2000 server running IIS 5.0 — but since that platform is not explicitly mentioned in the document, I also installed it on a Win98 machine running Personal Web Server 1.0a. In both cases, the result is the same. (tried PWS 4.0, but it does not support FTP, and is not a supported platform for Internet synch)

I can successfully browse via a web browser to the /synch folder, and upload and download files to the /ftpsynch folder. With IIS, I referred to the server by its IP address, and with PWS, I referred to the server by its Windows name.

The only troubleshooting tools that I am aware of is the “Test communications” option in the Sync dialog from Access. That fails in exactly the same way as the “real” synch.

Getting very frustrated by this…. and any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I’ve never done what you’re trying to do, so this is just a stab in the dark, but as no one else has been able to suggest anything here goes….. Can IIS talk to the database ie: is there an ODBC connection set between the IIS server and Access?

Use ODBC from Control panel and test the connectivity.

I don’t know if this applies, but there is a knowledgebase article on this error: Failed Internet Synchronization Leaves Files on Server [Q173171].

So near, yet so far. I followed the instructions in the Article ID: Q173171, and have now gotten to the point where it does leave the .msg files on the server, but still can’t advance beyond that point. Previously, it just failed with an “internal internet failure”. At least now I know that the ftp part is working — there is something still wrong with the Web part of the connection.

        Thanks for your help.
