It appears Intel plans to remove old drivers and bios update downloads for very old Intel boards and components by the end of this week (around November 22, 2019).

Good thing it’s not the most recent hardware, but anyone still cobbling together old machines might pay to ensure they have good copies stored for later use 🙂

Intel is removing drivers and BIOS updates for desktop components and motherboards released in the 90s and early 2000s.

Most of the drivers are for Windows versions like 98, ME, XP, and older Windows Server editions

I would recommend anyone still using hardware from this era look into this as soon as possible. Catalin‘s article has a few tips for you.

Kirsty: Thanks for giving a link to that article that has, in turn, links to those “mirror sites” that keep copies of the old Intel drivers and will continue doing so for the foreseeable future. My geriatric Toshiba (Win 98 ca. ’98) and IBM (Win XP, ca. ’05) laptops both tell me to say “Great! We love you, K!” And thanks also for letting me know that there is a Web site called “Vogons”! (“Now calling all Vogons to build bypasses around Intel’s Crazy Town!”, no?)

Ex-Windows user (Win. 98, XP, 7); since mid-2017 using also macOS. Presently on Monterey 12.15 & sometimes running also Linux (Mint).

MacBook Pro circa mid-2015, 15" display, with 16GB 1600 GHz DDR3 RAM, 1 TB SSD, a Haswell architecture Intel CPU with 4 Cores and 8 Threads model i7-4870HQ @ 2.50GHz.
Intel Iris Pro GPU with Built-in Bus, VRAM 1.5 GB, Display 2880 x 1800 Retina, 24-Bit color.
