I am test-driving the Intego Internet Security X9 free trial.  If you are using Intego please indicate what settings you use in Virus Barrier:  how often do you schedule scans and are they full scans or quick scans, do you use Standard protection level, etc.

Also, I am totally baffled by setting up Intego Net barrier.  Is it necessary if I have the Mac firewall enabled?  I am a home user for Net Barrier and don’t understand how to decide what to let it do.  Any help is deeply appreciated.

I’m reviving this as I’m interested in Intego for Mac and any other recommendations.

      Thanks

I use Intego Virus Barrier and NetBarrier, as well as Washing Machine. The former is the antivirus, the middle one mostly is for finding out what is talking to what and whom in and to/from the Mac, and the latter is for removing garbage that accumulates in caches and the like.

I have the anti virus not set to any schedule, but I have it working constantly in real time, patrolling for things that should not be in the Mac, and also I do a quick scan at the end of every session and I complement it with a run of Malwarebytes (Free), for good measure. Washing machine, in the some six months I have been using it, has deleted some 5 GB of trash.

I have noticed no problems. I am currently running Big Sur 11.6.4, and mine is a mid-2015 Intel quad core I-7 CPU MacBook Pro with 15″ Retina screen and actual function keys and two non-tiny USB, plus HDMI and Ethernet, sockets.

      No complains, so far.

Ex-Windows user (Win. 98, XP, 7); since mid-2017 using also macOS. Presently on Monterey 12.15 & sometimes running also Linux (Mint).

MacBook Pro circa mid-2015, 15" display, with 16GB 1600 GHz DDR3 RAM, 1 TB SSD, a Haswell architecture Intel CPU with 4 Cores and 8 Threads model i7-4870HQ @ 2.50GHz.
Intel Iris Pro GPU with Built-in Bus, VRAM 1.5 GB, Display 2880 x 1800 Retina, 24-Bit color.
macOS Monterey; browsers: Waterfox "Current", Vivaldi and (now and then) Chrome; security apps. Intego AV

Thanks Oscar.  I presently have Malwarebytes Premium which yesterday crashed and I could not open.  I had to download it again and that fixed the problem.  However, there is no phone help anymore and from what I am reading Malwarebytes alone is not sufficient.

I am going to downgrade my Malwarebytes to the free version and purchase Intego – Virus Barrier and Net Barrier and Washing Machine.  In addition to your recommendation I see that our friend Nathan Parker also recommended Intego — so off I go to purchase it now!  Also, I like the “garbage removal tool” as I never know what I can successfully remove.  I have an IMac running on Big Sur on my IMac (2017 purchase).

Thanks again I appreciate your guidance through the maze of anti-virus!

Oscar – I’m trying to install the Mac Premium Bundle X9 – the free download.  It is stuck on “running package scripts” saying one minute left.  Did you download it or did you purchase it and have it sent to you?

I bought Intego, so  cannot really tell you much about the free version. I had it for a very short time, to see if Intego would run on my Mac or not. Soon I decided it would and, right away, bought the paid full version.

Intego was recommended by Nathan Parker, who used to be AskWoody’s Resident Mac (& Apple Devices) Expert.

Before and for several years, I was using Webroot SecureAnywhere, both in the Mac and in the Windows 7 PC. Win 7 died in January 2020 and, in the Mac, Webroot went wacky after I installed Big Sur and there were no signs this was going to improve. So I was looking for another AV and Nathan advised to get Intego. So here I am now, using Intego.

As to Malwarebytes, I understand that having two real-time AVs live at the same time is asking for trouble: a case of too many cooks spoiling the broth. So I have the free version of Malwarebytes, that is an “on demand”, not anoher “real time” AV as Intego, and perhaps that is why you are thinking of using it as well?
