Installing Feature Update Windows 11 24H2

The term “feature update” is used when moving from one version to another.
This topic is in two parts:
I. Update Windows 11 Version 23H2 without interference from feature update Windows 11 Version 24H2
II. Feature update Windows 11 Version 24H2 with minimal installation errors (and known after-installation error)
Update Windows 11 Version 23H2 without interference from feature update Windows 11 Version 24H2
The following steps will block Windows 11 Version 24H2 from attempting to download and install.
1. Download InControl.exe:

2. Left-double-click InControl and allow this program to make changes to your device.
3. Make sure the Version/Release is 11/23H2. (I am not responsible for variations in nomenclature.)
4. Press “Take Control” and Exit.
5. Download WUMgr (and use WUMgr):

6. Use WUMgr to update Windows 11 Version 23H2 without invoking Windows Update “Check for Updates” operation.
Feature Update to Windows 11 Version 24H2 with minimal installation errors (and known after-installation error)
1. Make an image backup of your system.
These steps are used to feature update to Windows 11 Version 24H2 from earlier versions. Do not use WUMgr for this feature update. You will corrupt your operating system which will require restoration from your backup disk.
2. Using InControl, press “Release Control” and Exit.
3. Use Windows “Check for Updates” which will automatically download and install updates.
Known error after installation:
After the feature update to Windows 11 Version 24H2, if you are using Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Mail accounts will need to be reconfigured as the email names will be present, but the underlying send and receive information will be gone. Storage Folders remain intact. Windows Essentials 2012 contains Windows Live Mail.
Summary
Installing feature update Windows 11 24H2 presents a challenge.
— Windows 11 Version 24H2 must be blocked with InControl before Windows 11 Version 23H2 updates will show in the update queue using WUMgr.
— Feature update Windows 11 Version 24H2 (from Windows 11 Version 23H2) did not install correctly under WUMgr. Installation under WUMgr required two attempts and corrupted the operating system. The system was restored with a backup image.
— When Windows Update “Check for Updates” was used, Windows 11 Version 24H2 (from Windows 11 Version 23H2) feature update removed Windows Live Mail email address send and receive configurations, but kept operating system, other programs, and configurations intact (as far as I know). Windows Live Mail email accounts were reconfigured (re-entered).
— I have not yet attempted updates where the build changes in Windows Version 24H2 using WUMgr. My expectation is that WUMgr will function as anticipated for Windows 11 Version 24H2 builds.
