install problems (ie6)

Taking MS advise I downloaded ie6 to stop the nimda virus. It was OK for a week but now I keep getting the ‘Done, but with errors on page’ message at the bottom of my screen. Each time I start up my lap top I know get a message saying that ie6 did not load properly and would I like to resume, if I click OK it comes back and says it could not load all of the components.

I have been on to the MS site again and when I try to download it again it stops after 22 seconds and if I click on support nothing happens. I have rebooted and tried again about 15 times.

If however I go to Yahoo and type ie6 it takes me to the download site and lets me start the download but when it comes to the install it gives me the message that a previous instal was not completed, it cannot continue and that I should re boot, and off we go again.

I have tried using the the Windows find facility and have deleted any references that I could find to ie6 or ie6setup but the same thing happens.

Any ideas please? (If it makes any difference I am running ME)

Also, do the following BEFORE d/l:
1. empty browser cache
2. disable antivirus program BEFORE d/l from d/l site
