• Install problem Epson TX117 on XP

I have a problem trying to install my new Epson TX117 printer/scanner. It installs OK in Vista (A multiboot PC XP/Vista/Win7/Ubuntu), but the install wizard does not see any of my 8 USB ports.
It also installs OK on a different XP Pro SP3 system, but not on mine. When asked to switch on the printer, XP itself sees it and tries to install it, but the Epson wizard does not.
I used Device manager to uninstall all the USB ports (after asking to view hidden devices) rebooted, but I still have the problem. I downloaded the latest driver from Epson, but the same problem. Any help would be really welcomed !

It appears that you have this on a network, how is it connected so these different machines can access it?

No, the printer is connected directly to my PC. I do have my wife’s pc connected on a peer to peer network, and when I finally get this printer to install, I will, of course share it so that she can also use it.

My problem boils down to the fact that although Windows XP itself sees that the printer is connected, the install driver CD wizard from Epson does not. If I use the “manual” as opposed to the automatic install, it shows all the possible ports available on my pc EXCEPT ANY USB PORTS !! THIS is my problem. I’ve sent this info to Epson but they have not come up with any help.

What OS is on the machine that the printer is connected to?
I hope it is NOT the multi-boot machine!

The CD for the printer drivers and software is valid for what OS?
The install does NOT look for a USB port, but the device that is connected to the USB ports.

XP Pro SP3 is the machine. Yes, it is a muliboot machine, but I don’t see why that should be a problem. When XP is running, the other systems (Vista, Win 7 and Ubuntu) are not running.
As I said, It installed with no trouble when I booted into Vista. The install fails (just hangs half way through) in Win 7, but I’m not sure that the installer is valid for Win 7 anyway.
When asked to connect and switch on the printer – (from the Epson install CD), it says that it cannot recognize the device and gives up. When selecting “manual” install, it shows all my ports, EXCEPT for USB ports, and asks to selecet one, so that doesn’t help !

I’ve uninstalled all usb ports, after selecting to view “hidden devices” in device manager, no help. I’ve also tried to run the install in safe mode – no help.
I tried to allow XP to go ahead and intall it (it sees the printer immediately it is switched on), and automatic fails. I then told XP that I “had disk”. and browsed to the CD printer folder, but no go either.
I have passed all this on to the Epson Web site, but they cannot offer any explanation. So if you have any other ideas, I would be truly grateful !!

      Many thanks

An update to my problem !

I borrowed an Epson Stylus C46 printer and it installed perfectly to the same USB port on my computer. I then uninstalled it and using a brand new HP Scanjet G2710, I also installed it perfectly, ALSO ON THE SAME USB port !

I MUST get a solution from you to solve this problem, as I have to be able to print from XP due to legacy software I have that only runs on XP. Right now, I have to boot into Vista to use the printer.

      Many thanks
