Quite a while ago I uninstalled Outlook Express since I use Outlook most often. Now I’m trying to reinstall, but I can’t seem to find a way to install just Outlook Express. I installed IE again, but there is still no Outlook Express. I think it just updated things. There is a folder called Outlook Express in the Program files. There are 4 .exe files – oemig50.exe, SETUP50.EXE, wab.exe, and wabmig.exe. The last two were contact things and the first two wouldn’t run. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

The key file is msimn.exe. Try going to Control Panel|Add or Remove Programs|Add/Remove Windows Components There should be a box for Outlook Express about 2/3 of the way down. If it is not checked, check it and press Next; following the instructions to install. HTH

When you did this, did you need a CD? Or did it just install OE on its own?

The reason I ask is I have someone who downloaded the latest IE version on a company laptop which wiped out the OE and left behind just those same four OE files you had.

They want to reinstall just OE without messing up IE and its settings.

            Bruce,

OE was originally installed on its own with the the rest of office. I uninstalled OE since I didn’t use it and some apps opened it up occassionally. When I wanted to reactivate I couldn’t find it, so I downloaded IE from the Microsoft website because they don’t have just the OE program. Still no OE. That’s when I followed unkamunka’s advice and used the Add Windows components in the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel. Didn’t need a CD when I did that.
