Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |
Is there a way to install ChromeOS on VirtualBox? I’ve searched around the net for it. It seems there used to be pre-built images for it, but it seems they’re optimized for VMWare instead.
I’ve occasionally received questions from teachers using Chromebooks, and having a spare copy of ChromeOS on VirtualBox might be handy. I don’t see myself needing a full-fledged Chromebook at the moment.

There should be no reason it won’t run in VB instead – it’s just Linux.
If you can get the VM in OVF/A format it’s easy to convert.

The article also mentions that Neverware no longer offers VirtualBox images, only VMware ones.
These instructions worked. Seems CloudReady still had a VirtualBox compatible OVA around.

The only annoyance with it is it prompts me to install Flash everytime I boot the VM, but other than that, it successfully loads Chrome OS and even syncs my Chrome settings with my Google account.

Were you able to install the Virtual Box addons?
I didn’t since ChromeOS doesn’t support them. It seems to work decently without them though except the annoying Flash install prompt. It works good enough for the troubleshooting purposes I need it for.
