Two separate problems on two separate computers regarding the insertion point:
    1. Sometimes (about once every few weeks) when clicking in text with the mouse, the insertion point does not move to the location clicked on. The only way to move it is to use the arrow keys. The mouse has been replaced and Office un-/re-installed.
    2. Sometimes when typing, the insertion point will move to a different location (for example, one word back) without warning. Text ends up pretty messed up when touch typing.

    Thanks. Any info appreciated.

#1 often indicates a problem with the driver software for the mouse. However, if Word lets you use the menus, then it could be another problem I’ve seen rarely where the mouse pointer becomes the same color as the background and you cannot even see it when it is in/over the document. Or, also rarely, Word could need to be restarted. Maybe some searches in the MS Knowledgebase would turn up an actual fix?

#2 obviously shouldn’t happen. Sometimes notebook computer users with touchpads will reposition the cursor with their palms, but the precision of the move (one word to the left) makes that unlikely. It is possible for unexpected key combinations to become assigned to various actions. From the File>Print… dialog, the Print what drop-down lets you get a list of the active key assignments at any given time to see if that is the cause. Otherwise, perhaps an extra virus/trojan scan would be good.

Is there any voice activated software on the machine? This can/will cause problems.
