If you don’t need the information in headers and footers, you can simply copy the page into the clipboard and then use Edit => Paste Special => Picture (with no link).

This is also the only way to make a Word Document almost impossible to edit.

I have just the opposite — I think — question: Freind who is writing a book has encountered the performance problem resulting from inserting picture files into the Word document. My suggestion for him is to insert a link, not the picture itself, but I am at a loss as to how to do this. (And is this indeed the best approach?)

To a general picture, yes, although funny things happen with linked pictures (depending on the version of Word).

Assuming that there is a picture file on disk, put it in the same directory as the document using the link (this isn’t necessary, just makes it easier to move everything at once). Insert => Picture => From File will bring up a dialog box. Find and select the picture but do not push any buttons yet! The Insert button has a little down-triangle that you want to click on and have it say “link.”

Upon exploring further, I’m not sure that you can paste as a linked picture! shy

Hi arage. Saw your question elsewhere. Here’s some more info for you. I use a litlle program that I love, called SnagIt. It’s a screen-capture utility that works ever so much better than Windows’ print-screen command. You could feasibly do a print preview of your doc. Then take a screen capture of the whole page. Ought to turn out well for you. You can download a trial of SnagIt at http://www.techsmith.com

      Hi KT:

I haven’t used SnagIt, but have heard others mention it. Does it have any advantages over IrfanView, if you know?

      Thanks,

Provided that you can get the whole piece of the doc on the screen at once, you can do a screen dump of the selected area using the ALT-Print Screen buttons on your keyboard, then CTRL-C to copy it and CTRL-V to paste it.
