When I choose Insert -> Picture -> From File, the dialog box that pops up defaults to thumbnail view. According to Microsoft (Q301459), “The Insert Picture dialog box is designed to always open in Thumbnails view.” Their Workaround? “To work around this behavior, after the Insert Picture dialog box opens, switch to the view that you want.” Just for the record, they also offered code to modify the behavior in Word.

I don’t happen to care for thumbnails view. I have too many pictures organized into too many folders – all with descriptive names so I don’t need to see the picture before I add it. Other people here at work are starting to ask why this is happening. They want to change it and I hate not having an answer for them.

Please, please, can someone tell me a better way around this? I have tried the boards for registry hacks and have not had any luck.

        Thanks defrag –

It’s a good start. I was looking for some way to fix the default behavior for Insert Picture in all of the applications, but I’ll take what I can get. I
‘ve tried the macro and it works just fine. Thanks again.
