It’s a complex arrangement, but the bottom line is that privately-held China Oceanwide Holdings Group and the Chinese venture capital branch of IDG (“

So then what does this mean for Woody on Windows?

    • #11468

No changes at all, far as I can tell.

I hope to get more involved with tips and utilities, and move the righteous indignation more to AskWoody.

I used to be afraid of how China is buying up EVERYTHING. Hell, they even own Volvo now.

But with all the cool stuff going on in Shenzhen, and their swift and sudden action to just ditch dozens of coal power plants and sink all their efforts into renewable energy and advanced technologies, them buying up American assets might actually be a GOOD thing. Because look at just how well the American companies are running things, lol.

In any case, wouldn’t surprise me if Woody had a few fans in China, since you’re pretty much doing god’s work by being our go-to guy about everything Microsoft, and China probably still mostly runs XP and 7.

If any of the Chinese investors are reading this, give Woody a raise!

      Shenzhen’s a remarkable place!

(I’ve rejected a couple of comments along the line of “China is buying everything.” The business situation in China is far, far more complex than a bunch of old generals treading on the backs of poor workers. I’ve spent a lot of years in Asia, and the only sweeping generalization about Asia that I know is accurate is that there are no accurate sweeping generalizations.)

As one who had also worked with that area and has been there, AMEN!!!

Ah yes the usual journalist internalizing the intentions of the publisher such that no censorship is necessary. That’s no change?

Sorry but that’s routine for journalism. Elegant and effective.

Sorry but that’s just wishful thinking to obscure steep us decline.

Wonder if this will be posted.

name should be changed and not affiliated with Infoworld

Isn’t it not business-wise for IDG to hv a few similar cptr tech websites, ie InfoWorld, Computerworld, MacWorld, PCWorld, and CIO.?
……. They should be consolidated into one site = save a lot of costs.

I do not see how the Chinese buying up everything in the U.S.A. can be healthy for the U.S.A? If we don’t soon start keeping manufacturing and jobs here there will not be a U.S.A. anymore period.

I think open markets are healthy for everybody: People in the US should be free to invest in PRC, and vice-versa. I’ve spent a lot of years living overseas, and seen a lot of protectionism. It rarely has the desired effect.

As for “The Chinese” — there’s no such thing. China is far from a monolith. The situation’s complex, fluid, and changing rapidly.
