    I have two troubles with indexes.
    1) When I insert and index using Insert->Index and Tables->Index ->Index, the default language is US English even though I’ve set the document to English(Aus). Does anyone know how to change the default to match the language of the document?
    2) I want to use leader dots (like in Formal) but centre the Index Heading. I can achieve this inserting the index as Foemal and then manually formatting “Index Heading” to be centred. I want to be able to select “From template”. Can this be done?

    Thanks in advance,

      2) When I use “From template”, Word doesn’t create index headings, so there is nothing to centre. scratch

        That’s the real question
        How do I make the “from template” option generate headings and then centre them?

        I want to define in the template what the index should look like.

        Regards,

          Insert an index with the “From template” format.
          Right-click the index and select Toggle Field Codes from the popup menu.
          You’ll see something like

          { INDEX e "(arrow)" c "1" z "3081" }

          Add a switch h "A" before the closing bracket. This tells Word to use index headers.
          If you’d like them to look like – A – etc., use h "- A -"
          Press F9 to hide the field code and update the field.
          You can modify the index and index heading styles to look the way you like.
