Importing pictures into Win7 gives me so many options. The one I normally choose is “Import Using Windows”. This works the first time, BUT if I delete the directory of the imported pictures AND empty the recycle bin, when I try to repeat the Import operation the Dialogue box tells me “No new pictures have been found”. I search the computer for the original import but it is nowhere to be found – the pictures don’t exist on my syste. So why can’ I choose the “Import using windows” again. I know I can copy and paste or drag and drop, but would much prefer the original method.
And why so many options to Import, very confusing

Patch reliability is unclear. Unless you have an immediate, pressing need to install a specific patch, don't do it. |

This is because you are deleting the source (The Directory) You can not have one or the other.
If you want to repeat the import function you must have the directory of the imported pix that remains on your camera!
Do Not Format The Camera Disk Until Your Are Sure You have The Pix You Need!
At the very least do not empty the bin. If you go to the Recycle bin and restore the pix to their original location. you would still have what was in the directory.
I search the computer for the original import but it is nowhere to be found – the pictures don’t exist on my syste.
This is because you have cleared the Recycle bin, before you have saved any pix’s
So why can’ I choose the “Import using windows” again. I know I can copy and paste or drag and drop, but would much prefer the original method.
If there is nothing on your camera to import (like a formatted disk) that option will be grayed out.

Reading UK
Then there is another way to look at this………..
When you go into Explorer to the listing of your camera do you see two storage systems?
One for fixed storage, and one for Removable?
Double click on the one your using. I always have an SD disk in my camera, and set to load that first.
When I double click on it. it opens up into two Folders marked DCIM, and MISC.
Then click on the DCIM, and a Folder opens, 100K7330, double click on that and that is where your newly downloaded pix’s will be! -

AskWoody MVPMarch 4, 2011 at 7:54 pm #1270365Just as a word of caution, I’ve read in a couple of places that one should not use Windows to format a flash card used in a camera; use the camera’s format tool instead. A Windows’s format can make a flash card unusable in some cameras.
Once I have transferred my pictures to the PC (I have a card reader), I put the card back in the camera and format it in the camera.
Always create a fresh drive image before making system changes/Windows updates; you may need to start over!We all have our own reasons for doing the things that we do with our systems; we don't need anyone's approval, and we don't all have to do the same things. We were all once "Average Users". -

AskWoody LoungerMarch 5, 2011 at 3:32 am #1270393When you plug the camera sd card into the appropriate slot it should open a dialogue box and ask what you wish to do. The easiest way I have found is to view the files on the card, highlight all the files and then just drag them to the desktop or into a folder I create on the desktop. This should copy all the pics from the camera to the folder you created. Remove the sd card and replace it in the camera while it still holds the original pics. Now go back to the desktop folder and view the pics. If they have been saved appropriately you can now format the sd card in the camera. The folder containing your pis can be then moved to where ever you normally save pics. You can also use whatever app you normally use to manipulate the pics in any manner you normally do (resize, etc.) There are many ways to transfer pics from a camera to PC. Heck on my digital SLR camera I can plug a mini USB cable in and move pics directly across this link to the PC without touching the sd card. This is even more convienient. I then unplug the usb cable before doing anything on the pics I have transferred to my PC. I always ensure the pics have been copied thusly prior to elliminating the pics from the camera.
