• Importing from Excel (2002 SP3)

I have data in Excel 2003 SP3. I saved a worksheet as a 4.0 document. From an Access table, I try to use “Get Data from External Source/Import” and there’s an unspecified error, and there is no data brought over.

My fields in Excel are mostly simple numbers or text. They are the same as my Access table structure. What I’m unclear about is the cell format compatibility. In Access I have a date field. In Excel I formatted the field to the same type of date. In Access I have an input mask (ZIP Code). I unhid all the columns (fields) in Access and have the same column headings in Excel. I named them what the Table View calls them and specify that the top row of my Excel worksheet is column headings.

    Any help?

Have you tried saving the workbook as a standard Excel 97-2003 workbook? Does that make a difference?

        Yes, same error:

An error occurred trying to import your file [path]. The file was not imported.

Could you attach a copy of the workbook (stripped down if necessary)?

            Here’s the workbook.

I could import the the worksheet without problems in Access 2002 SP3 into a new table, but the first field came in as text because there is a text value in cell A20, and this also caused Access to import too many rows.

I then deleted all records from the imported table and changed the first field to Date/Time.
I opened the Excel workbook and deleted the extraneous rows and saved it.
The workbook then imported correctly into the existing table.
