Is there any way of preventing Excel from ‘helping’ with the column markers? I need to import several different 2-column text files. Excel sets the column properly on the first column but the 5k-byte second column is subdivided into dozens of columns. It appears that the only thing to do at that point is double-click all the wrong markers, which is a very time-consuming and tedious task. Any help would be *greatly* appreciated.

Select “delimited” and uncheck all the delimiters and you will get one big column.
You can get the first column out using the LEFT function. Mid/Right/left could be used on the other column to subdivide. If you do this a lot a macro could be created.

You can also select the entire sheet, then place your pointer between 2 column headers and either double click to autosize or click and drag out to a specific size. This will resize all the columns of your spreadsheet at once.
