When trying to import a *.pst file using the import/export wizard, I need some explanation on the fourth screen when it asks you to select a location to import from. I dont really understand why the only option it gives me is a file in outlook called Archive Folders which contains a completed task file, a deleted items file and an inbox file that has ONE of my personal folders in it (with only one item). If my pst file is on my hard drive (or server drive) how can I import it FROM an outlook file?? I want to import it TO an outlook file. Then, I completely don’t understand the “importing items into the current folder/same folder in” options. When i try and choose one of the files listed, it tells me the “source and destination folders cannot be the same”.

I guess what Im trying to achieve is an understanding of how to import my archived folder into a place that is separate from my “daily use” personal folders and know where it is so I can view the files.

Why not just do a File Menu | Open | Personal Folders? This gives you full access to the folders and items in that pst. When you’re done with it, right click on the parent folder and choose Close . The reason I ask is that re-importing from your archive kind of defeats the purpose of archiving.

OK- I didnt know you could do that- but, when I do that, does it dump all of my archived files back into my existing Personal Folders Structure?

HI. They don’t get dumped back in. Instead, the pst shows up in the folder list as a top level node (like your mailbox). You work with it pretty much like you do your mailbox. If you really need to get the contents back in you can drag them from the folder in the pst into the folder in your mailbox. This is probably a better way than the import process anyway.

Well- that sounds much easier than what I was trying to do. Thanks for your help
