I managed to import FF (3.5.16) bookmarks in Chrome (9.0.597) but it was an old set. I can locate the new one in an adjacent folder but can’t get it to import. I deleted the wrong set from Chrome (as a toolbar) but can’t et it to import either the old or the new one now-click on the import tab and nothing happens. So I think I have 2 problems: first, how to get the current set of bookmarks located to that Chrome can find it, and then how to get the import to work. I’m getting to like Chrome more and more–but gotta have that big collection of bookmarks all sorted the way I want. (Usng XP SP3)

    Thanks for any enlightenment.

Does Chrome let you import from an HTML file in an arbitrary location? You could export your Firefox bookmarks to the HTML format in an easily located folder (e.g., c:) and point Chrome there rather than having Chrome try to discover the correct Firefox profile.

Are you able to get into …
        Bookmark manager>Organize>Import bookmarks?
If yes, HTML is the default file choice.

You could try installing Xmarks in both Firefox and Chrome. Haven’t tried it in Chrome but it claims to sync bookmarks beteen thes browsers.

thanks for the suggestion – I’ll try Xmarks. Chrome doesn’t let you point to the FF bookmark location, at least not as far as I could figure out. Right now I gave up and uninstalled Chrome – thought I’d wait for a while and try again maybe in the summer. I was spending too much time, and figure if it’s that tricky, I don’t need it.

I highly recommend using Xmarks so you can sync bookmarks across different browsers like Fx, Chrome and along w/ Xmarks for IE, IE, too.

I have not tried recently, but Xmarks also offers to sync your logins/passwords and browsing history.

Speaking of logins/password, Xmarks is now a part of LastPass which will sync them across different browsers, too.

There is a simple solution, without using third party software.

            1. In Firefox Ctrl+Shift+B to enter Bookmarks Manager.
            2. Under Organise Bookmarks choose Export option – and choose a location (such as your Desktop) for the exported bookmarks. This will output and save all the Firefox bookmarks to a HTML file.
            3. In Chrome click on the wrench and select Bookmark manager
            4. Click on ‘Organise’ and select ‘Import Bookmarks’
            5. Chrome now asks you where to import the bookmarks from. Select the bookmarks HTML file saved earlier (to the Desktop, in this example).
            6. All the Firefox bookmarks will now appear in Chrome.

Here, Chrome does let you point to the FF bookmark location, but they needed to be saved in HTML format.
