When I try to change the Outlook setup to import various file types, the program insists that it needs pro.msi from the disk. I and the setup program cannot find the file. Help!

Sounds like programmer error! One fix used with Office 2000, when it had trouble finding its MSI files, was to dump the entire contents of the CD onto the hard drive and point the program there. If there really is no such file as pro.msi, you might try renaming one of the MSI files and see if that makes it happy. Make sure you have a good backup first. grin

OK, so I’m an idiot. I was using the media disk instead of the setup disk to modify Outlook. Pro.msi was right where it should be.

If that’s the worst mistake you make with Office, you will have been a lucky man. smile

If not the programming bug then perhaps you didn’t elect to install the import/export tools and only had it set to install on 1st use. I don’t have ready access to an XP CD, but I think the file is really setup.msi.

If the translate function in word does not work – or text to speech in excel then you will also not have installed the necessary bits to import excel data.

As a user I could not up date the program so had to get someone with admin rights and the the cd to put it right!!! It now works a treat except I am also driving everyone mad trying to catch the voice out!! It does a pretty fair job of Ol’ MaDonald had a farm!
