Hi, I don’t know how this happened but a while from now when word inserts a picture, it won’t float over text by default, so I have to go changing images formats whenever I insert one. Anyone knows how to make word insert pictures normally? This doesn’t happen with one document only, so I believe it has something to do with normal.dot. If possible, I’d like to keep my normal.dot since it’s so customized it’d take me days to re-customize another template, and still I know I would miss some things .

Should you have thoughts on this one, please drop’em. I greatly appreaciate any.

    Thank you very much

I gave away my copy of Word 97 Annoyances, but I’m sure the answer was in there. Anyone still have a copy?

Yeahp, I know we people sticking to Office 97 are a minority… However, good ol’ word 97 still delivers some thrills (when it freezes)… er… fahgeddaboutit.
Anyways, thanks for your response. Now tell your friend to go fetch that book!!

          Hi Diego:
I have a copy & always keep it within arms reach except…well, never mind when not. grin Anyway, Woody addressed the opposite problem, getting rid of the default “float over”. Therefore, I suspect that you have a macro named “Insert Picture”. If you delete this from normal.dot (or from a template in your startup folder), the default should be to insert “float over”. Also, you might have a customized “InsertObject” macro that needs to be deleted.

            Hey Phil, thanx!!
I was about to tell you that indeed I had both of the macros you mention, but I didn’t know how to handle them since they are stored as “word commands”. I don’t know in which template these are stored, and word will not let me modify them. However, I can run the macros step-by-step, and by doing this I found out the InsertPicture macro you mentioned prompted the same dialog box as when you do Insert | Image | From Archive (I have the Spanish ver. so exact menu names may differ).
When I was prompted, I realised there is one checkbox which says “Float over text”, and it was unchecked. I checked it and inserted a picture. Then I closed word, and it saved normal.dot, so I thought it might just be working. I relaunched word, and yes, now the checkbox is checked.

Guess I have to set myself a little appart from quick keyboard sequences (eg, Alt,i,i,enter is the keyboard sequence for my Spanish ver. to prompt the “Insert Picture from Archive” dialog box) and pay more attention to those little details. I dunno when, but I must have unchecked it sometime when moving around the dialog box with tab/shift+tab.

Thanks again to both of you.
            Have a nice weekend

              Hi Diegol:
Glad you found the solution. FYI, Word commands are not found in any template. They are coded into Word itself, so you can’t modify the Word command directly. However, if you create a macro with the same name as the Word command, your macro will run in place of it. You can put it in normal.dot or any template in the startup folder & it will be available all the time. Or, you can put it in any template in the templates folder & your macro will “replace” Word command when you load the template as an add-in (or attach it to a document).

              Cheers,
