Hi AskWoody Lounge;
I’d like to ask Woody a question regarding ‘What to tell friends who use Windows 7, ISSUE 16.12.0 • 2019-04-01’, specifically “(A very tiny percentage of Windows users are on Win 8.1; you can identify those folks by the stylish but readily recognized tinfoil hat.)”
Just exactly what did he mean? Tin Hat? Conspiration crazies? Why just win 8.1 and not all of us?
(I must mention I have never seen a screen of win 8 or 8.1, so maybe he refers to some image I have never seen.)
More specifically, I have seen a suggestion made the change to win 8.1 will bring us (win 7 holdouts) a year or so of reprieve, with little to loose. I would be very interested in his take on this suggestion.
I tried to post on the Lounge on win7 topics and on AskWoody Lounge where it probably belongs, alas I could not figure out how. No post button, no FAQ, no advice I could find, so here it is in your lap.
I’d really appreciate Woody’s comment, I was planning to change my win 7 to win 8.1 this summer, and use the extra time to establish a viable dual boot Linux for the routine web use, then stick with the win 8.1 for my private off-web use indefinitely.

(Spoiler: Win 8.1 is fine – arguably the most stable version of Windows. But you need a win 8.1 license, which can be hard to come by.)

What if your username is different on Windows secrets but the email is the same?

Will your posts on WS still be carried over to AW ?

I.E on WS my username was bwc on AW its Barry
