I am now considering to install IE8 on my Vista HP laptop.
Download pages ask you to Select Region … mine is Norway.
But if I select Norway do I get Norwegian language??
I want to have English so do I therefore need to select an English speaking region?
Also … if I do not like it or I get problems how do I revert to IE7

RonAs long as you are running an English version of Windows I’d download from an English region.
If you don’t like IE8 just uninstall it and you should revert automatically to IE7.

AskWoody LoungerApril 27, 2009 at 2:43 am #1158191As you can read I loaded IE8 and have had a few problems but I am not sure if they relate to IE8 or to Skype that I downloaded a couple of days prior. I have removed Skype though it was a bit troublesome to get out of my Vista pc!
Just in case … how do I revert back to IE7 if I need to? Can’t see it in ‘programmes?A major concern is a report from my Kaspersky AV which indicates that I now have FlashPlayer 3.1.1b.ocx associated with something called mProjector in my Temp files … deleted Temp files and it came back!
What is this all about and is it part of IE8, Skype, other?? Note that the only ‘programme’ flash listed is the latest from Adobe 10.0.22.87Hoping ‘knowledge’is out there and thanks in advance.

AskWoody LoungerApril 27, 2009 at 2:55 am #1158196If you uninstall IE8 (using the Add or Remove Programs control panel), you’ll revert to IE7 automatically.
mProjector is a tool “to build rich-internet applications for the desktop using Adobe Flash” from ScreenTime Media. See Flash Projector. Have you installed this application?

Hei Hans,
IE8 does not show in the Vista Programs listing … but IE7 also did not. There must be another ‘place’ where it is listed? To my knowledge I have not installed mProjector … it must have been downloadedwith ‘some programme update’. I certainly have no need for it! Is there any way I can find this out? Thinking back, a few days ago, I recall a web ‘updating Adobe’ but I can’t recall what I was looking at! I am always very careful what I click on though.
Maybe I should delete the mProjector file entirely?? It is a Temp folder.

In general, it doesn’t hurt to clear your Temp folder, so I’d try deleting the mProjector folder.

RonIf you feel you need to uninstall IE8, it is listed under Control Panel | Programs | View Installed Updates.

Just a general hint about software issues. When you install an update to a program such as Skype, IE, Office, another browser, etc. don’t make other changes to your system until you have used the new version for a while. “A while” is that period of time that has elapsed such that you can be relatively sure the new software has not disrupted your PC to any major extent. I know that is very vague but when you install more than one significant program update in a short period of time it will be almost impossible to pinpoint the source if a problem arises. Then recovery becomes more complex and time consuming as you’ll have to decide about uninstalling and reinstalling more programs.

AskWoody LoungerApril 27, 2009 at 8:52 am #1158234Yep … found IE8 in the ‘Updates’. Never thought of looking there!
However I will persist with IE8 for now to see if minor problems have gone … my pc has been so very stable over many weeks prior to the latest batch I loaded (Skype/IE8). But I have dumped Skype and deleted the mProjector stuff so lets see if all is back to normal. The FlashPlayer 3.1.1b.ocx seems to have been dumped with mProjector so I will see if it comes back … maybe some programme that I have demands it (but an old unsafe flash??) so if that proves to be the case then I will dump that specific programme.I assume that mProjector ain’t something to do with IE8 … it can’t be, can it? I just can’t work out what it could be associated with that I may use??

mProjector has nothing inherently to do with IE8. Flash Projector, Desktop Application, Widget, SWF to EXE Tool for Mac and PC | mProjector is the home page for it. If you were experimenting with converting Flash to .exe files or creating Flash applications you may have installed it. If you ran across an application created by it you may have needed to install some runtime support. If you did not see it in Control Panel | Uninstall a program check IE8 Tools | Manage Add-ons.

Hei Joe,
I checked with screentime and this is what they said:We make an Application development tool that our customers use to create applications, desktop toys and screensavers, it is likely you have downloaded one of those, since we have thousands of customers it is pretty difficult to know what you have downloaded and what it will do, but I have not yet seen anything malicious built with our tools.
They do not express concern about the flash used so maybe its a case of ‘Kaspersky’ over reacting although I have heard that Securiana are also ‘finding it’. mProjector came back so what its association in my pc is I ain’t got a clue!

Nothing extra installed Joe. I think that it must have been downloaded when I looked at something … I can recall an Adobe ‘update’ notification when on a web page. Didn’t think much about it at the time and the pc did not ‘stop it’ eg ask me first as it usually does. However, I have dumped the mProj Temp files again and so far they ain’t come back!

ps The IE8 seems OK and I rather like it. -

Thanks for posting back about IE8.

AskWoody LoungerApril 27, 2009 at 8:30 pm #1158310Based on other threads about the Secunia tool, it will find obsolete executable that are outside the execution path. In most cases, they probably do not pose a hazard and also do not provide any benefit. You can rename those old versions (e.g., .ocxyz) and see whether that interferes with any software that relies on embedding Flash. Hopefully the software is smart enough to use the current Flash OCX in the Windows folder.
