• IE8 Crashes with Yahoo Mail hyperlinks

If I open an e-mail from Yahoo, using Yahoo’s “all new e-mail,” and I click on a Yahoo link (maybe other links as well, I haven’t tested it), IE8 crashes. What this looks like is a second window (not tab) opens up but is all white. The boundaries of the window are not clear–the Close, Minimize, Restore buttons fade into the full IE8 window in back. Neither the original window or the child-window respond.

The only way to recover is to go to Task Manager and end the program.

Examples of Yahoo links that crash:

    Top News Stories: any headline
Within a “Yahoo Answers” e-mail: See user’s profile, Go to your answer, Reply to this user.
Within a Yahoo Group message from an individual: Visit Your Group

By the way, going to Yahoo Mail “Classic” is a LAST resort. I welcome alternate comments or solutions.

Are you using IE8’s “compatibility” mode? You should be able to toggle this on and off using an icon on the address bar. Does it make any difference either way?

Compatibility mode doesn’t make much difference. I’ve been right clicking and opening to new windows for every link. But then those new windows’ borders and corners are not clear (Close, Minimize, Maximize), and I can’t close those windows, certainly not by the Close button which is not there, and not by right clicking the taskbar program icon either.

Have you read Why does Internet Explorer crash when I’m using the new Yahoo! Mail??

Have you read I’m having trouble with my account. What are your top troubleshooting recommendations??

There is no Discussion Tool, and my Security was already set like it recommends

Now I’m right clicking to open “in a new window” and that is working at a minimal level. But then I come back and the whole IE Yahoo Mailbox is bogged. I can’t get the mailbox to scroll or Sort by Date, for instance.

And when typing into a Yahoo mail, the screen image of my words does not keep up with my typing (I’m not that fast), so I have to backspace and “correct” words because of this bogging down.

Have you tried running IE with addons disabled?

Running with add-ons disabled has not changed my problems. Does anyone know particularly why only in IE, when composing an e-mail in Yahoo, the text I type on the keyboard neither “keeps up” nor types accurately. So, this is how this problem looks. I type onto the keyboard:

All the king’s horses and all the king’s men

What happens on the screen, without my editing intervention, might look like:

All the kighorses and all te king’s mn

There is nothing wrong with my keyboard. It’s like IE is being sucked of memory or something. Or maybe it just sucks?

Webmail sites have become complex applications that often take substantial time to adapt to new browsers. You might check Yahoo’s support site to see whether this is a known problem or has a workaround.
